A blissful home - mortgage_girl's MF diary

Half term is finally here - hooray! And today I plan to have a day of doing absolutely nothing - which I do find surprisingly hard to do.:o But i've spent so much time rushing around, trying to meet deadlines and doing extra bits and pieces to contribute to the op pot that I need a day of relaxation to help me unwind and put things into perspective. After all, what's the point of doing all this if we can't sit back and enjoy life and the beautiful homes we're creating?
I have been feeling a bit fed up and unsettled recently which is a sign that i'm in need of some 'me' time. Yet I think that like most people of the MFW treadmill our brains are always ticking over and thinking about what we could be doing to help bring that MF date just a little closer. Well not today, today i'm going to focus on doing things that I enjoy (which will probably involve being curled up on the sofa with a book for most of the day:rotfl:). Maybe we need a thread - A MFW's little list of indulgences?
Anyway, just before I sign off, the news I came to share is that by the end of this month i'll be below the £62k mark on my mortgage :j (I always see it as a small triumph when I knock another £1,000 off the mortgage). My MF date is now June 2027 rather than November 2036 which was the initial end date for the mortgage, and since taking the mortgage over on my own (which officially was February 2011) i've managed to reduce the mortgage by an extra 2 and a half years :j which bizarrely is the date i'm aiming to be MF in (Aug 2016). What an amazing 35th birthday present that would be!
Ok enough mortgage musings and time for some 'me' time. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Love the idea of a little MFW'ers indulgence thread
It could run along the same lines as the 'what small things...' thread only opposite. Of course in true MSE style I'd bet lots of indulgences would be Groupon type treats, or from vouchèrs, coupons etc which makes thw, even more enjoyable
Well done on alkost breaking £62k. Bet you'll be in the fifties before long!
Enjoy your me time!#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -

Thank you ICTD.My 'me' day was lovely and much needed - I feel more human now.
Today has been a very productive day. I've cleaned the tiles in the bathroom and scrubbed off all the excess grout...it's only needed doing for 3 years.I've also cleaned the rubber seal on the shower glass which had got quite manky - I didn't realise I could remove it and clean it until today...I'm just hoping it doesn't drop off now I've loosened it! I've also mopped the bathroom floor, washed and dried a load of washing and made a batch of meat pies for the freezer. I've had a good rummage around the freezer and discovered that I have about 15 batch cooked meals (plus the pies I made today!!!) in there so there's plenty to keep me fed once I go back to work next week.
I need to take the car to the garage tomorrow - it's started to make a strange noise so I'm taking it to get checked out, I really hope it's nothing too expensive. Whilst in town I'm going to visit the running shop and get measured up properly for some running shoes as I've found that once I've been running for about 25 minutes I start to get pins and needles in my feet and they start to go numb. I've tried loosening my laces but it doesn't seem to make a difference so a pair of 'proper' running shoes and some expert advice is in order...if that doesn't sort it I'll have to visit the doctors and see if they can shed any light on what's happening. From what I've read online it does seem to be quite common so I'm not too worried, it's more annoying than anything.
In other news, I've discovered (well my partner discovered) that I have a hedgehog hibernating at the bottom of my garden. He's tucked himself away behind the bin in a little bundle of leaves, beneath a plastic sheet...aww. He nearly got cleaned up when we were tidying the garden on Sunday. Once he's woken up I might invest in a hedgehog home to put there. I'm hoping that we didn't disturb him too much when we were tidying up around him - I'm not sure if it's possible to wake up hibernating hedgehogs? But I don't want to risk disturbing him again so I'll just leave him be.
Right I think that's all my news so far - fingers crossed that the car isn't too poorly tomorrow!

Just a quick update before I head off to read my eyelids, as I don't seem to have been on her for ages and feel really rude for not replying to people.
LGP - i'm fine - just been really busy. But thank you for checking
Linz and Hurdler - I just used Ast@nish mould & mildew spray - it and after a good scrub blasted it with cold water. It isn't recommended for rubbed but I decided to be brave.
I've spent my £100 food budget - it lasted me 60 days which isn't bad but not quite the 100 I was hoping for. I'm going to have another go now i'm a seasoned 'thrifty miss' in the aisles and see if I can get closer to my 100 day target. The money i've saved has gone towards the mortgage so its a win-win situation all round.
It's World Book Day tomorrow and we're all dressing up as book characters (the joy of teaching). Our year groupnhas decided to go as Mr Men & Little Miss characters so i've spent the past couple of nights sewing my costume. It looks quite good even if I do say so myselfand i've enjoyed getting creative, plus I saved myself about £40 on a shop bought costume.
I got my car sorted - to cut a long story short, the couldn't find anything but identified another 'potential' problem which they didn't attempt to fix (or inform me about until I picked it up) and which then became a real problem on the way home. After some harsh words and the threat of taking my business elsewhere, I received a phonecall to say that they would cover the cost of all parts if I agreed to cover the labour, which knocked £320 off my bill and resulted in me walking round grinning like a cheshire cat - I was so proud of my little win against the big guys.
And that's about it really. Apart from that it's just been the usual: working and saving the pennies where I can...plus the odd snugglepuss cuddle or two thrown in for good measure.
Right, i'm off for a quick catch up with some diaries and rhen it's eyelid reading time!
Night all!

Good news! I'm now below the £61k mark on my mortgage :jand hopefully by the end of next month i'll be sub £60k :j:j:j. I've decided that i'm going to treat myself to some Lush goodies when I hit that milestone (and I must admit that i'm really excited
).
There's also good news on the running front today - i've managed to run 6km in 40 minutes, which is my furthest distance yet...I even had enough energy to sprint for the last minute as I was determined to get to the 6km mark by the time my 40 minutes was up. I need to be able to run 10km by June - I think I might just do it, fingers crossed.
I had a fairly productive weekend and managed to weed and dig over the main veg patch, as well as bake a ginger loaf during my tea break (which was much appreciated after my Sunday run). Saturday was spent doing schoolwork and housework - boo!
I'm feeling quite enthusiastic at the moment and feel like i'm getting my mojo back after a few weeks of feeling like a 'raincloud of doom' and wanting to hide away. I'm even excited about the fact that I haven't needed to switch my heating on today, although I have spent most of the evening at my Mum's.
Right, time to read my eyelids!
Night!
