Royal Mail complaints go NOWHERE!

I wonder if anyone has an explanation for how an organisation can have utterly no complaints procedures that are followed up? They vanish into thin air.

Has anyone successfully registered for their door-to-door opt-out service and subsequently actually STOPPED receiving unaddressed marketing mail? I have been on to them, filling in the forms, several times over a period of a year or so and still get almost daily batches of flyers wrapped in flyers without an address on them. I collect them and put them back in the post box as I don't see why I should be responsible for disposing of them, but what galls me is that Royal Mail have never once done anything about it!

I say privatise the whole shebang. I don't care if it means prices will rise, I'll pay for it.

Are you sure it's from Royal Mail?

We get loads of junk through the door but it's from other private companies that offer leafleting services as well as the weekly batch from Royal Mail.
Here I go again on my own....

Yes, dropped with the regular post by the man with the red bag!
  • There is usually an address on leaflets, put each one in an envelope without a stamp and post them back to where they came from, the recipients will have to pay the excess postage.

As an ex postie have you any ideas why RM cannot uphold complaints? What does the guy in the office do when you call? Is there any record-keeping or a trace of some kind? Does anyone further up the chain get involved?

Any how does opting out work in a practical sense? Does the postie have to learn who has opted out or is he given a list or something?

    Just interested

It's a shame that they have no regard for people who don't want junk mail. But alas all this junk mail we get stuffed through our letterbox (We've gone so far as to even put a "No Junk Mail" sign up that gets completely ignored by the postmen and everyone else as well) puts money into the Royal Mail.

These companies sending out junk mail though are wasting their time, as much like with a spam email, the majority just discard it.
This post was brought to you from the vortex of a human psyche, it was approved by my poor judgement. :T

    well it depends,

If you call the national CS.then the complaint is officially logged on the CLEO system
this is an auditable system and show when a complaint was read at the delivery office, what resolution was put in,how long that took etc
the data from this system can be checked by area/senior managers.

If you complain at a local level then its very much down to the efficiency of the office.
somme complaints are non complaints and wont be passed to the managers.
eg I used to get my mail at 6am, cost a shilling etc etc
Anything like a D2D opt out failure would be passed to the section manager who deals with that area/postcode
then its down to them to handle it
however in RM now. most managers days are finding ways to cover duties due to staff cuts. they maybe out delivering mail, taking staff out etc. Im not defending the managers as to get on in RM you need to be a bully, yes man/woman or back stabber.
however often complaints are low on the priority list and you would get the same complaints, pass them to the same manager etc

again implementation of the opt outs will vary.
what does(did?) happen was when you got your D2Ds every week there was a sheet with it (they come to each duty labelled up)
this sheet shows the contracts that week and any opt outs
some offices have printed lists on the frames of each duty to show opt outs
    others will use different methods
    however there can be issues
a classic is lapsed or part time walks
the person putting up the duty isnt delivering it

Cheers for that, good to have a slightly clearer picture of what happens.
  • Royal Mail are shoite. I was out when a Christmas package was delivered (a bunch of presents from my mum in Australia). "Parcel put in green box" was the message that came through the door. The green box is the recycling box. That day was recycling day. We never saw the package.

We have sent packages, letters, so many times that have never made it to their destination. I give up on them now. They are totally dysfunctional and a good example of how British workers are absolutely unable to perform the simplest of chores without stuffing it up.
