You didn't actually say whether the gossip was true or not...

I would find the person who said it and confront them(non agressivley) and say how you could lose youre job over remarks like this. You can still keep this other person that told you annoymous as it could have spread by word to anyone.
Next i would see your head teacher and say this rumour is going around and is worrying you as it is untrue &she can feel free to do a random drug testto clear your name.
I would not go down the legal route as it would bring it out more and not many people may have heard this but they will after a legal dispute and mud sticks!

Personally I would ignore it . My main concern is that if you do go to the head and say something like "it has come to my attention that rumours are circulating concerning my alleged drug taking, and it is not true", he or she is going to want to know the source of this allegation and at this stage you do not know , apart from this third party overhearing something. I do not think that you will lose your job on the strength of "rumour control" and as the allegations are unfounded , there is NOTHING going to happen .
Pleas please dont worry , it will be alright .

I agree with Lady E, unfortunately in a situation like this you can't really win. If you do say something it could look like a situation of 'me think the lady doth protest too much'. :-\

How about telling some of the other teachers as a passing comment 'you'll never guess what someone overheard people saying about me...' and laughing it off as utterly ridiculous. That way if anything ever does come of it you have covered your back a little.

What a ridiculous situation to find yourself in though. Some people must have far too much time on their hands to be making up gossip about people they barely know!
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • Thank you for all your advice and different opinions, I really appreciate it.

I'm going to stop worrying and see how I feel about the matter when I return to work on Monday.

I would mention it to the Head Teacher, before someone else does.

TBH i would forget it, however hard it is, if you discuss it with anyone especially the head it will esculate (SP).
Please don't worry (i know it's easy to say!) it will prob all blow over (even though i would be tempted to smack whoever said it on the nose!!:rotfl: )
What makes me mad is they are prob so called professional (SP) people:confused:
