Wedding Transport?

What are you all having to get you & bridesmaids to the church and then you and OH to the reception?
I was idolising the idea of a horse and carriage as our venue is in the country so it would look gorgeous but when I got a quote it was £650!
Even the cars we've looked at will be about £300 which seems like loads for what are actually relatively short journeys.
I think we're just going to end up using a friend or something as it seems like a waste of money but it would be lovely to have something great if possible! After all, the main reasons behind fancy transport is for the photo opportunity really.

we are saving on transport because it will all be in the same venue - ceremony and reception. I did consider a horse and carriage for photos and a little ride but then decided against it and used the money on other things x

ive arranged a friend to do it,
we were discussing it yesterday saying whats the point of a big expensive car? is it just to impress your neighbours? cos surely everyone you love is already in the church or whereever when the bride arrives!
we will be bunging a ribbon on a willing mates car and saving about £300, there are things im happy to spend out on, like the food etc but things like cars and flowers are not important to me at all...im happy to go in a taxi if i have too... i just need to get there!0 -
My OH was really keen on the cars...he had his dream car a few years ago but sold it due to our budget constraints so I know it was something he was really keen on for the wedding. In fairness we do have long journeys involved and have managed to find a company hiring out gorgeous cars at much less than others in the area. We're having one car for me and BM (stepdaughter) from a local hotel to the zoo, and another for my OH, his son (best man) and my sons together from our home to the zoo (about an hour away). The smaller one that me and BM use on the way there, will take me and OH back to the evening venue near where we live. So we do get our money's worth of the cars
We're hiring a coach to take guests from our town to the zoo and back, and our kids will use that to get back to the evening do (also got coach at much less than some firms wanted)

Myself and 2 bridesmaids need to travel to the venue and would not fit in a normal car with my dress. Its huge and has a massive hooped underskirt so I need a big car, its actually a limo. Its only costing £100 and it means the 3 of us get there in one car and I don't crush my dress. Nothing to do with my neighbours......0 -
i'm walking! It'll take about 15 minutes! We're getting married in Rhodes. h2b keeps trying to talk me into arriving on a donkey, but it's not happening!saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...0 -
We are having these
The first car is for me and step-dad and the second is for the BMs and mum.
I wasn't going to bother with "proper" wedding cars but H2B's family thought it would be nice so MIL2B and H2B's aunt have paid for our car and we've paid for the BMs so it's cost us £90
A suggestion on here for cheaper alternatives is calling a taxi company that does executive hire cars.

I don't need transport to my venue, but I've been offered a TukTuk to take me from the Bridal Suite to the top of the aisle
Now how to convince my dad....0 -
We just used our own car! Neither of us were that fussed, and we wanted photos of us and our friends rather than some stranger's car, so we just got our best man insured on it for the day and he drove us to the reception. We did give it a bit of a clean, but didn't even bother with ribbons etc, and didn't feel as though we missed out, but then we aren't car people at all and would have failed to appreciate anything fancy any way!0

We've booked a 1934 Semi-convertable Rolls Royce. Nothing to do with impressing neighbours, i just always dreamed of arriving in a Roller.
Couldnt get a discount despite best efforts, but they have agreed to do two runs, taking the bridesmaids and my mum and then coming back for me and my dad. Its against their policy, but their "bridesmaids" cars are the black old style limos that you often see in funeral corteges and my h2b refused to book it. We're arranging taxis for the bridesmaids & parents to get from church to the reception.
You could always take a stroll round your neighbourhood and see if anyone has a nice car they might be willing to drive to to church in and have photos with, in exchange for a bit of petrol & beer money. I would pop a note through the letter box or under the window wiper explaining you would love to use their car. I think most car enthusiasts would be delighted that someone is taking an interest in their pride and joy.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0
