Tesco SIM-only contract - I win!

I have been on the Tesco SIM-only deal for the past three months, paying £10 a month for 250 minutes of calls, unlimited texts and 500MB a month data allowance. Note that after the "introductory" 3 month period, data is chargeable at £4 per month (although this fee falls at the end of this month).

As an iPhone user, the data allowance is key to me and thus GiffGaff's £10 bundle seemed the logical switch once I lost my bundle with Tesco Mobile. I have placed an order for a GiffGaff SIM, but in the meantime I decided to email Tesco Mobile Customer Care and ask if they would like to "incentivise" me to stay with their network.

Initially I received an email making me the outstanding offer (sarcasm!) of charging me £15 a month in future to include the 500MB data allowance and an extra 250 minutes of calls. I replied with another email making it clear that I did not think this was a good deal at all, that other mobile networks make such allowances to retain customers and finally that I would be leaving a negative review of their service on Ciao.co.uk and dooyoo.co.uk consumer review sites.

Strangely enough I received the following in Tesco's reply:

I am sorry to read your query has not yet been resolved. I can assure you we do value you as a customer.

I can confirm we used to offer promotional tariffs. We offered the £15 tariff but for £10 (as detailed below).

This is no longer available for new or existing customers however on this occasion I can change your tariff to the promotional tariff.

From the 22/02 you will receive 500 Mins/3000 SMS/500MB Data (continuous).

So all in all, I got what I wanted plus a double call allowance for the price I wanted, proving that just sometimes it is worth complaining!
