Ryanair weigh carry on luggage!

I know carry on luggage is restricted to 10kg but never have I had it checked before.
On a recent (31st Jan) flight back from Kaunas in Lithuania we checked in our hold luggage but was not asked to weigh our carry on luggage.
Then just before you go through the xray machines where they check your boarding pass and passport....again.... they had a small weighing machine.
So beware with the weight of your carry on luggage, or you could be forced to pay extra, and go to the back of the cue to check it in to the hold.
Interestingly why didn't the checking in desk when they weighed our hold luggage ask to weigh our carry on then??

Airline checks the weight of hand luggage. Shock horror! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Those who take the time to check or are not taking the proverbial have nothing to fear! ;)
  • Oh I do check the weight with my trusty electronic scales but on this occasion had forgot to take it with me for the return flight...DOOH!
The funny thing was I had my small notebook in one hand, when the lady asked me to weigh my case.
Luckily I had remembered to take it out of my carry on ready for the security check.
    The case weighed 9.1kg.....:rotfl:

Because all that would happen is that people whose carry on baggage was overweight would do is to remove a few heavy items and give them to someone to look after until their bag had been weighed and accepted, then put the items back in.

I've seen this done many times in various African airports where the local population seem to have a competition to see who can take the most hand luggage.

I fly with Ryanair regularly (my OH is one of their pilots) and yes, I have noticed that lately they are weighing more and more bags (and checking sizes). But 10kg is a lot of weight compared to most airlines so I don't understand how anyone can complain at that - or the fact that they weigh your bags.

And of course they weigh them before you get on the aircraft and not at check in for two obvious reasons; most people check-in online so unless you are checking in luggage you go straight to security anyway, and probably their main reason is that as they clearly say, everything you take onboard in hand luggage has to fit into your hand luggage and be within the 10 kilos which INCLUDES all the bottles of duty free you purchase AFTER check in.

Ryanair is mega cheap so I don't see how you can complain at their policies, I've had far worse experiences on Virgin and it's worse to feel let down by a company you've paid £600 to as apposed to one you got a return flight to Europe for less than you'd spend on a meal out.
