  • i had a collect call which said was from a young girl in a London phone box (they didn't have a name), I accepted thinking it was my daughter needing help (she was 12 at the time). It turned out to be one of her friends who wanted to speak to my daughter!
After checking that there wasn't an emergency, I explained forcefully to the girl that she'd cost me £3 and I was not happy.
Though I was relieved that my daughter was OK.
The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.
  • I've never used one of these services, but perhaps if they gave you an option to replay the recorded message before deciding whether or not to accept the call, this situation would be less likely to happen. Presumably it would be in their interests as well as there would be fewer disputed calls from people in your position.

Oh for the days when there was an operator who you could talk to when you needed to place a reverse call, who would then talk to the person you were calling!
  • Make sure that your family, or anyone who you would expect to call you in an emergency knows the cheapest option to use and only accept calls from that company.

BT is £2.99 + the call charge which seems reasonable to me.

I still don't see how you can expect a company to police this type of thing.

  • Initially contact your phone company and make a complaint, as they are colluding in these calls, and are the ones charging you for receiving these reverse charge calls and texts. They also pay a percentage of the call charge back to the reverse charge call companies so don't be shocked if they try to fob you off as they both make very good money from this practice.

Also, take it to your MP.

The more pressure applied to these reverse call companies the sooner they will be required to improve their service practices.
  • Over two days I had calls saying that I had a message and to ring my daughter urgently. I didn't use their 'service'. I have no need to with four phones in the house plus Internet. Despite this 08000mumdad took £18 from my bank account via BT.

After many promises by these scammers - and that is all they are - to refund my account I asked BT who took the money out of my bank account to refund. BT refused so I just told my bank and they invoked the Direct Debit Indemnity scheme and refunded my account sticking two fingers up to BT and 080000mumdad.

08000mumdad are NOT a legitimate company whatever old cobblers they come out with, they are out and out scammers and theives preying on peoples fears.

The bit that really annoys me is that BT actually condone this scam. Report it to the police as theft.
