Notice to Newcomers - re Trolls - Part 10
Comments
-
A long time ago Pania wrote the message below to Newcomers or anyone who comes across a troll on the forum.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll?
A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made. If you should get such a comment made on any thread you post, asking for help and advice, please realise this comment is not directed at you personally so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal because the majority of us really are a lovely bunch – ooops, modesty!
What should I do if I get a comment made on my thread?
Firstly do not respond to the comment as this is invariably what the troll wants. So to get rid of the offending post, at the bottom of the post towards the right hand side you’ll see a red "Warning" triangle within a blue “Report” icon, as shown below:
Click the icon and then "send" the message which will inform the MSE team of the post, who will then review its content and deal with it as appropriate; sometimes even deleting the troll by making their status PPR’d (Posting Privileges Removed). Remember, this site is an asset to so many people, especially those that feels like their world is falling in around them. There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here all willing to help, whatever you do, do not let the comments of one silly individual deter you from availing yourself of the knowledge base that is on offer here.PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE FORUM
It is testament to the work that Martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time, knowledge and experience freely to others; without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of their debt crisisPLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THATIf you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours0 -

Morning all.
I'm a bit upset. I've just been told by the jobcentre that my inheritance from mum's has to be used for living costs, I can't buy a house like I'd planned without losing my means tested benefits. There's a tiny chance that a decision maker would allow it but it doesn't look likely.
I'm gutted. Mum wanted me to buy a house so that I'm secure and can work part time if my health improves enough. In the long term owning my own home would mean I'd have less benefits, but of course they don't see that.
I can't even pay off my debts with it because that's deprivation of capital!
Right now I can't even see the woods for the trees, all I can see is having a huge bank balance which will affect my mental health (either I'll go manic and blow the lot, leaving me right in the proverbial, or I'll get paranoid/depressed and panic over every penny spent), and having to watch it dwindle.
Sorry to moan, I'm still in shock over it, I'd been told previously that I could buy a primary residence for myself with it and I'd really been looking forward to loads of luxuries - central heating, a bathroom that meets my needs wherever I'm at in my illness cycles, room for a carer to stay that's not the hallway floor, a dishwasher so that I don't have to eat off paper plates....Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Oh Ames that is awful. Really wish I could offer some constructive advice but its not an area I know anything about. All i can suggest is that you try and take it further if possible to see if there is anyway round it.
Is there somewhere you can go for advice specific to your illness to help you put a case together? or the CAB maybe?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I've been in touch with a disability advice charity, they help me with all my benefits stuff. I'm just getting told different things by different people.
It's actually making me angry with mum - she knew this was likely, she looked into what she could do about it but then never bothered to make the will putting it in trust for me. Which isn't fair on her. It's just so frustrating that she died on the friday and was going to make the will on the monday.
And my sister's not exactly being supportive - she said that if I come off benefits it might make me well enough to work, and I can't get through to her that this whole thing makes selling mum's house come under scrutiny from the benefits service, if we sell it to dad (like she wants to do) and give him money to do it up then I could get into trouble for selling it below market value just to fiddle the benefits. And some of her suggestions are outright fraud.
Again, sorry to rant...Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Ames, I'm really sorry to hear about all the problems, that's the last thing you need and your sister's attitude won't be helping much either. You rant away if it helps, no need to apologise.
Have you tried Welfare Rights? They might be able to help.
Good luck.
