  • Personally I would make a complaint to the Information commissioner.

You re being denied access to your own information.

Secondly you have been given access to someone else's information that should remain secure and only known to them.

Also you could be inadvertently accused (by Santander ?) of accessing other peoples accounts even though they have obviously given it to you.

I think it really is time those supposedly in charge of our interests such as FSA,FOS etc threw a very large and expensive book at Santander.

Indeed - I am first giving them their allocated 8 weeks to resolve this. I have received half of my new login details. Just waiting for the other half to come through.

Once this is all sorted, who do I contact as regards to removing myself as being listed as financially associated with my brother and his address on credit reports? Is this something I should get Santander to fix? If they can't/won't or are too incompetent to do this, how do I go about adding a comment to my records?

As for sailingannie, I would be interested to know how she is getting on with her issue.

and thirdly, you don't know if anyone else has access to your information (anything is possible with Santander, apart from the things that should be possible - they are impossible )

Exactly..as someone quoted they could see three accounts that were not theirs I would complain immediately to the Information Commissioner.

Under these circumstances waiting 8 weeks for resolution is not on. Just supposing the person whose accounts are on view to someone else complains about fraud what then ???

You could report it but on what basis could you ''complain'' to the IC for seeing other people's information?

Well, I think Consumer40 summed it up quite well, in another thread/

Santander have a duty under the Data Protection Act to process your data accurately. On the face of it they have failed to meet this obligation. Even worse they have supplied inaccurate information to a third party. And despite you bringing the error to their attention 4 months ago, they have still not resolved all the problems they created.

I would report them to the Information Commisioner (helpline: 0303 123 1113). The more cases like this that are reported, the more likely it is that some action will be taken.

They do have a duty to process your data acurately, but it's not your data is it?

I don't think you could make a complaint to the IC as a third party as you have suffered no loss.
  • True - but surely the argument stands - if you can see someone elses data without them knowing, then there is a good chance someone can see yours without you knowing. I would think that is grounds enough to at least bring it to their attention.

In my case I can actually speak to the person (my brother) whose accounts I could see, so he can make a complaint. In sailingannie's case, it is not that simple as she does not know who the person is, and Santander's online banking system does not show names or addresses - if she is lucky, he/she will be using his/her own name on the welcome screen, but that is all you could use from that system (and that can be changed to anything you like).

In my case, I have actually been associated with my brothers address on my credit history - so that may be one way of tracing down the 3rd party to contact them make a complaint themselves - but then again they may not have been associated.

I feel with the uncertainty this provides, the IC would investigate.
