1.9TDi is the one to find. 2.0TDi is far from trouble free.

Sorry, second that too, avoid 2.0 as 1.9 is legendary!

Isn't the SEAT Altea fundamentally the same vehicle? Potentially a cheaper alternative.

seems we have a clown joining in,a example of why i rarely use this once very useful website.
  • Altea makes you look like a spanner!

Touran 1.9 is the one to go for.

Both the 2.0 and 1.9 suffer problems with the ABS/ESP units failing. VW know about these problems but dont seem to want to assist people.

If youre using it as a taxi you may want to research DPF's...

Meh, you're probably right, but this is only a taxi we're on about. Minicab drivers have been driving all kinds of undesirable cars around for many years because they are cheap and reliable (Primera/Bluebird/Octavia anyone?) -- if the OP could save £1000 on the cost of a Touran for the same thing then why not?

FYI, VW now do a repair kit for the ABS unit, which is £128 + vat and even that can be covered by an extended warranty claim (up to 5year old cars) due to the issues they've had, as long as you've been a VW customer with your services etc.

Before you slate someone/something, i'd take some time to check your facts 1st

There's nothing wrong with DPF's as long as they are recycled at the required intervals. They reduce emmisions and make the engine more efficient, so would be good for a cabbie?

Full service history required, or don't touch.
Then check they will honour anything for the second owner, not many do.
Fitting will cost more than £128 + vat.

DPF, unless your taxi can do a few motorway runs, it may be a problem.

my mum got one as a courtesy car followin an accident last year - thing's a tank, great to ride in as a passenger & more than enough space for 3 grandkids & 2 buggies. Quiet as a field mouse too which was a surprise given its size & the fact it's a diesel, not sure what it was like economy wise though since i don't drive.
