Oven door glass has come out partally

We have a stainless steel Flavel electric oven.

The door comprises of inner metal plate with middle constructed of glass. The outer door is glass only.

The inner glass looks like its glued with self adhesive tape but one side doesn't stick to glass any more, it just happened tonight.

We took the door apart but cant see how we can glue it back on particularly as it will get very hot when cooking.

Oven is 18 months old, any suggestions how to fix it? Thanks

    You could use clear silicone.

Best bet is to get in touch with the manufacturer. This will be some specialist intumescent (fireproof) type glue or tape. Intumescent tape is available (I've used many different kinds over the years for glazing in firedoors/windows), but I wouldn't risk recommending anything without any word from the manufacturer. You have an added issue here (food in the oven) you don't want to risk anything that may give off fumes when very hot.

Thanks for hep guys I see what the manufacter says.
  • This happened to my oven (different make to yours) and I could not find a heatproof glue anywhere. I ended up going back to the manufacturer.

They sent an engineer to replace the whole oven door! He said you cannot normally reseal them properly so it's easier to replace the door.

Although your oven is more than 1 year old it is an expensive item and one would reasonable expect to get years of use out of it:-

In England, Wales and N. Ireland, the purchaser will be able to ask the trader to replace the goods up to six years after the date of the sale, if the problem with the goods was present at the time the goods were delivered or supplied to the purchaser and if it is reasonable for them to have lasted that long. In Scotland, the purchaser can ask the trader to replace them if the problem with the goods was present at the time the goods were delivered or supplied to the purchaser, and if s/he has discovered the fault in the last five years and it is reasonable for the goods to have lasted that long. In England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland, if a problem arises within six months of the date when thy were delivered or supplied to the purchaser, it is the trader's responsibility to show the goods were of satisfactory quality, fit for their purpose and that they match their description when they were supplied. After this date, it is the purchaser's responsibility to prove that her/his statutory consumer rights have been breached.

As there has obviously been a manufacturing fault with your oven you can expect the manufacturer to repair the item for free.

Manufacterers guarantees are over and above your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. (SOGA)

Phone up your local Trading Standards office (in your local phone book). They can tell you exactly where you stand with this fault and SOGA. It does seem you have a good case to request a repair under this act because you've only had the oven 18 months.
