can i get out of my BT BB contract

I signed up for BT broadband about 3 months ago thinking that paying a bit extra would mean a good service.
how wrong i was! I've had nothing but problems with BT. I've spent over 10 hours on the phone to their customer services department. it seems that different departments in BT don't speak to each other (or record problems on a central database) as i have to explain my problems every time i call up.
problems have included:
-broken home hub
-completely dead BT phone line for 5 days
-1hour+ waiting times for customer services
-overcharging on the phone/bb bill
-not having the BT BB phone (or the temp replacement) delivered for 3 weeks
-and now - the connection keeps cutting off, its only for a minute but its happening several times a day
i'm sick of BT nad want to get out of the contract.
is this possible? or am i stuck with them for a year?
surely they have to deliver a certain level of service?
if i do break the contract - i.e. cancel, will i be fined?
appreciate your help

You couldn't be fined as such but BT could try to hold you to the terms of your contract and get a cancellation fee or even the balance of the money you would have paid to complete it.
By the sound of it you've had a torrid time with BT and all of that may amount to them breaching your contract but it could end up getting messy and you having to go to the small claims court etc. In the first instance I would email their head of group regulatory compliance with full details of your complaint AND the fact you consider them in breach of contract and wish to terminate it. See

You could also consider a complaint to OFCOM and mention this in your email to BT. More info at
