Is it barred/blocked?

My son bought a w800i from ebay about 5 months ago with his birthday money, today it is playing up and no sim will work in it, keeps making 3 beeps when you call and things (his words), is it possible the seller has blocked it?

Can't find them in my history anymore to ask them so is he gong to be £100 down at 14 years old?
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

    found some more info
How to Check If Your Phone is Blacklisted!!
Different networks blacklist handsets in different ways:

    Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or
O2 sim into a blacklisted handset you
phone will not show any signal strength
at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a
    "SIM card registration failed" message
will also be displayed. If your handset is an
Ericsson then an "Invalid Mobile" message
will be displayed. For most other manufacturers
the handset will simply show no signal!

    Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile sim into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!
  • Looks like it is then, shame, but hey that's life I guess, if anyone has any good suggestions please feel free to add them.

and the k750i/w800i are good phones as well

you could always get a k750i and get someone to convert it to a w800 for you
  • Thanks for the help, maybe I should just sell it as spare parts and he can put the money towards a new one.

You could resell it back on ebay but only to non uk bidders as the phone will still work ok on foreign networks.Bit risky selling to non uk bidders but a simple check of any winners feedback should tell if they are genuine or not.
