I'm so glad I found this thread, I have just placed my first tesco order and asked for no bags, I think I might go back in and change it now - I just didn't want a house full of carrier bags but if charity shops want them I'll definitely change it now. Unpacking and then checking the order while they stand in the kitchen and wait could be awkward, and I feel a bit vulnerable as I live on my own in the middle of nowhere and they're coming between 8 and 10 at night. If they can just dump the bags then go that would be best.

    Thanks again

    Yes...very wise. :)

I sometimes use the bags for 'dirty rubbish', potato peelings, chicken carcasses etc, bagging them up & putting straight in the bin. Some of the bags are only fit for rubbish themselves too. Tesco bags are thin anyway as they are bio-degradeable, but sometimes they have labels on etc so are often ripped by the time you have finished emptying them. The rest I give back to the driver next time, or as you say, charity shops find them useful. I think there may also be a place to return them in store too but that may depend on where you live.
  • Hi all,

My husband is an online driver for Sainsbury's. They are allocated doorstep time for each delivery, normally just a few minutes, all calculated within booking times to allow them to get from one drop to another on time. However, if you have suffered an accident, ill, etc. they will allow more time if you let them know. My OH regularly brings things in and puts them away for some customers, one lady on his round is allergic to sunlight so she shouts for him (from a darkened sittingroom) to let himself in and he puts everything away for her. So, she is always allowed a minimum delivery time of 15 minutes. They're just regular people and are more than happy to help those who need it. My OH has lots of elderley people on his round, including one lady who likes to tick everything off before letting him go, fair enough! lol He enjoys having a bit of banter and conversation, and has gotten to know most of his 'regulars' quite well.

Not allowed to accept tips, if you want to do something for them, call the store and let them know that they're doing a good job. For this they get a £10 Sainsbury's voucher.

As for feeling awkward, I shouldn't, they have seen it all (so to speak)

    ...

That's nice to know. I wonder if Tesco and Asda have a similar system.

I started off with no bags but it is a pain if you have a lot of shopping. I tend to reuse the bags for bins and as someone else said the Tesco ones are biodegradable (actually I find I'm lucky if their bags actually get here without having started breaking down!).

I'd take the bags and find a use for them as I find it much easier that way.

Interesting to know Sains driver's get a bonus, ours have been great (Sains & Tesco) I'll have to give feedback on them to the store.
