o2 charge £3 per mb of date when abroad with limit of £40 a month but not sure how much I would get for 1mb ?
I will be using phone to check FB and update and check emails and keep in touch with family while away.
I usually try and use internet cafe when abroad but now always possible to find one.

1MB wont really get you very much, it also depends on what phone you're using, a lot of modern smartphones are constantly using data to check for emails, sync contacts, etc. so make sure data is disabled when you're not using it.
According to google the average web page size is 320KB now a days which basically means you'd be getting 3 web pages per megabyte. To be honest I'm not convinced about that statistic and mobile web pages are usually optimised for size, but you still wont get that much time browsing for your money.
You'd be cheaper keeping in touch by SMS (or setup facebook so you can message via SMS?) or maybe even phone calls as at £3 / MB I assume you're going to be within the EU. Where is it you're going? O2 have a great bolt on available for Spain that makes using your phone affordable.0 -

I could not think of a holiday resort that does not have plenty of internet cafes or the hotel complex have wi fi access, even in developing places like Jamaica, wi fi access was available at much less than £3/meg.0 -

thanks for reply, you after looking closer think the texts will eb better unless we can get to internet cafe, we are going on cruise so different countries. I will turn the data roaming off before leaving UK so think I will just use it for texts .TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

Unfortunetly no hotel as we are going on cruise, Some ports we are only in for 5 or 6 hours so unless internet cafe near ship do not want to waste time looking for one .TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

A word of warning, a lot of cruise ships are registered in the Caribbean and as such a lot of the time the signal you're picking up on them will be relayed to a Caribbean network via satellite and you'll be charged at Caribbean roaming rates. You could still be in British waters, just out of range of a UK cell site and get charged the same as using your phone in the Caribbean! Texting for example will most likely be around 40p calls will probably be £1.20-£1.70 and it'll be 85p to £1.41 to receive a call!
Before using your phone on the ship consult staff who will most likely have experience of roaming rates, I'd stick to trying to use your phone on the mainland until you find out. If you're mainly going to be in the EU check our My Europe Extra if you think you're likely to spend more than a tenner on calls.0 -

It can be a minefield, when we where on ship before we had to make sure we were on a mobile network on land rather than the ships, like you say the ships one is soooooooooo expensive ,TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0
