Voters roll

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I've been living in the UK for the past 10 years, but I'm not allowed to vote, therefore I'm not registered to vote.

I've been trying to apply for a Credit Card for years now, but was never accepted. I've got a great credit score (Credit Expert), but no CC for me... Personally, I don't really want/need a CC, but for many things you want to do these days, a CC is required, so I'm looking for some tips.

Cheers

What nationality are you? Your username hints at Italian - on which case you ARE allowed to vote, in European Parliament elections only, so can register.
  • Hi dzug1,

I'm from Brazil... Italian family though.

Maybe you could add a note to the credit reports, explaining the situation? I think this means they have to be looked at manually when you apply for credit, so it could stop the 'computer says no' problem arising? Just a thought, not sure whether it would help.

You could consider a pre-paid card for the places that you need the card for.

Aside from that do you have a UK bank account that you've had for a while? If so try going in branch to discuss with them the possibility of a credit card and if they can offer any advice on how you might increase your chance of getting one.
I'm sure some posters have managed it after 3years in the UK, so there must be a way (though these may have be europeans I suppose)

  • Hi Tixy,

I've never considered a Pre Paid card...

I've been with Bank of Scotland for 7 years already. They're always offering me all sorts of Credit Cards/Current Accounts, but when I apply for these, it justs get rejected. After all applications, they only say I "must have a default on my credit file" or "get on the voters roll". I've explained to them already but they don't really care, I think..

Have you checked your credit files for adverse data? you dont always have to be on the voters roll to get a credit card.

Might be worth considering Prepaid Cards: New plastic that anyone can get

Well, I've checked my Credit Report and all was fine.. I really don't understand how I get rejected while many friends who are in debt still get new Credit Cards all the time.
