If you want to discuss the morality of child bearing in rented accomodation, please go over to Discussion Time.

The OP has asked for advice, to which they are entitled without reference to your personal views and preferences.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Reported for abuse! How unpleasant you are.

Greektony your comments are superfluous and irrelevant. Please post elsewhere if you want a good rant. People come here for help and advice not a commentary on their life-decisions

As i have been banging on about and you guys are pretty immune to it seems.. legally you are right. But morally the landlords given them almost the right notice as they had agreed .......

What you are "banging on about" is how you expect the OP (consumer) to waive her statutory rights when dealing with a business that is receiving payment from her.

You seem surprised that some people on a consumer website are immune to this "banging on". This, in turn, surprises me.

Yet another example of why generosity doesn't work any longer in our society.
Are we going to go down the "philanthropic LL" route here?

Many other potential Ts would not contemplate renting a property with no heating. Excess cold is recognised as a Housing Hazard under HHSRS and may lead to action against a LL.

..... I'm just disturbed to see the ease at which people can suggest screwing over the LL. It's not a pretty situation for anyone, but ultimately the responsibility falls on the OP and their last resort should be screwing over the LL, not the first as many suggest.
It is not a case of the T "screwing over" the LL - if you are a LL you should aim to be "professional " about it and that includes learning how and when to serve appropriately worded notices.

The law requires that S21s are served properly - if they are not then a judge will not award repossession. It's that simple.

why hasen't anyone thought about the landlord, they have rented this property out at a cheaper rate until they can sell it (not easy in this market)/ now when they have finally had an offer you are all advising the tenant to sit tight. Makes nme glad i am not a landlord

i kind of agree they want to sell their house and its not their problem where the tenant goes. On the other hand its hard to find somewhere affordable to rent and the poster is pregnant.

  • Thank you I will go down to the CAB office and housing department tomorrow as that is my partner's day off and I expect the housing department will need to interview both of us to review our situation.

In the mean time, as I have already stated previously, we will be looking for another house to rent. I dont mind going down to 2 bedrooms that is not the problem, it's just that 2 beds have shot up in price also.

If I just explain our situation a little more; At the beginning of last year? maybe end or 2009? before I was pregnant obviously, before my OH had been made redundant, and after living in our house for about a year (after been told verbally at beginning of the tenancy that this was going to be a long term let, which was one of the main reasons we wanted the house) the landlords informed us they would be putting the house on the market, which we were a bit annoyed about as they had told us it would be a long term let. Anyway in their words they said something like: "we're putting house on market just out of curiosity, we arent in any rush to sell, but if we get a good offer we will take it, if not we are happy to continue renting) so we stayed put because it can oviously take a while to sell and we were in an ok situation financially then. They didnt get an offer they were happy with so they took it off and told us: "we will probably leave it a year or so for house prices to start rising again" so anyway I became pregnant and then oh was made redundant. Then just before xmas just gone, I received a phone call from estate agents wanting to arrange a viewing?? the landlords had put the house back on the market without informing us, knowing full well of our current situation. Yes I realise our family planning and job situation is not their problem but please stop implying we have been the immoral ones here.
I am not planning on deliberately causing anyone any inconvieience. The LL will still receive rent from us and we will continue to look for another property.
Also I would just like to point out that you can also have a mortgage and find yourself in a similar situation regarding redundancy and repossesion so please also stop implying we are irresponsible in some way for choosing to have a baby whilst renting, besides I think you'll find most families can not afford to buy anymore.
Anyway I wont explain myself anymore, thank you to those who have helped.
  • Angel, I don't think you needed to explain yourself at all to anyone, especially to sad, inadequate flamers with nothing to contribute.

Good luck with finding alternative accommodation and sit tight until you've found it.

trouble is the op now faces the problem of finding a new house and if they can't then they may well need to stay on in the house in order to get social housing - the op is hardly going to make themselves inteionally homeless are they with a young family. It is a difficult situation.
best of luck to the op.
