Anytime dial-up, £1 for a month :)

Apologies if this is not in the right section.

BT Yahoo have a deal on where you can get anytime broadband for £1 for the first month, as long as you cancel before the month is up, that’s all you pay.

You can't cancel immediately, you need to wait until the first payment is showing as having gone through on their systems, before they can cancel it.

So once you've registered phone this number: 0800 085 2819 after 3-4 working days to cancel. I read their terms and conditions, they have to give you a months notice, you only have to give them 1 days notice, I didn't see anything else out of the ordinary that’s relevant.

I've already phoned and checked this out, they had no problem with it, they'll want a reason for you cancelling, just make something up if you can't think of anything better than "I just wanted to get the better of your company" :)

Follow the below steps to register and setup your dial up account:

Register for an anytime dial-up internet access by going here:

https://register.btinternet.com/cgi-bin/startup?version=ie55&ex=1&prmt=ANY007

enter all the details as necessary. It's worth mentioning that the site didn't work properly with Firefox, I had to use Internet Explorer tab.

The helper software download went wrong in my case. Instead I set the connection up manually:

Assuming you're running windows XP:

Click:
Start >
Control Panel >
Network connections >
File > (top left of the Network Connections window)
New Connection...

Then

Click next >

Select "Connect to the Internet" and then click next. >

Select "Setup my connection manually" and then click next. >

Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and then click next. >

Type the name you want the connection to be called in the text box, it doesn't need to be BT Yahoo, you can call it whatever you like. Then click next. >

Enter "08089933001" as the phone number (without the speech marks). Then click next. >

Then fill in the relevant boxes with the information you entered in the registration process for your dial up connection. By default your username will be something like "firstname.lastname@btinternet.com" it might have some numbers at the end of your first name or last. Enter the password you used in the registration process. (There are two check boxes on this page, the chances are that you want both of them to be ticked, you almost certainly want the connection to be your default connection.) Then click next. >

Select the check box if you would like a shortcut to the connection on your desktop and click finish.

Open up Internet Explorer or Firefox and it should just pop up a connection box with all your details already filled in, all you have to do is click connect.

Hope this helps anyone who needs a short-term fix whilst waiting for their broadband connection to be sorted out like me. :)

Cheers

~Liam
