extra urban I get 54 in my petrol 1.4 TSI with DSG box In town this drops to 47.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Modern Diesels do need to be driven very much more carefully now to get published figures. In my car that involves changing gears at the correct times- sometimes as low as 1600rpm when you change, and not doing more than 55mph. I then get the extra urban figure. Of course I don't bother and accept I'll get combined to urban more often. Equally I find my journey affect by the fact I drive in heavier morning traffic uphill when it's harder to be smooth and use more fuel too!0

Our 90Bhp Mk6 regularly returns 60 mpg even when driven sharply. best car we have had in a long time (next best was a Mk2 Golf 1.8 Tour)0

I have a Golf tdi 1.6 105 manual with 12000 mls on the clock and I average 60.22 mpg on mixed driving.I calculated this using the traditional full tank to full tank method. The onboard computer bears this out faithfully. On a trip along the M3 without any stops I got 74.5 mpg ! and I wasn't really trying. I really think that you do have a problem with your Golf, can you not take it to another VW garage and explain it to them?0

No help on the golf but just to make you feel better my 1.8 Tigra will only manage 22 mpg around town and about 40 mpg on a motorway run. my overall average this year is 30.28
see - you feel better already:beer:Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
The 1.6 Golf Bluemotion does 74.3 mpg combined 83.1 extra urban.
Which gets it in the zero tax band. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
I have the same car/model (2010) as you and I am getting about 60mpg on average (have done 21000 miles).
On a 80 mile round trip run to my parents I do every second Sunday I get between 75-80mpg. This is mainly A roads and motorway.
One thing I noticed was a huge drop in MPG when I started using Tesco diesel, at least 10mpg less than normal. I went back to Esso and my MPG returned to normal.
I changed from a car that averaged 25mpg to the Golf, and have never looked back!!0 -

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but did you get anywhere with this Murray?
I have just purchased the same car for my wife and getting 35-45MPG, whereas my Audi A3 Quatrro with a 1.9 engine easily achieves 50+!
Thanks
RobertA bit of a longshot but does anyone else have a Golf Mk6 1.6 TDi 105hp (manual gearbox) and if so what kind of fuel economy figures are you getting?
The published combined figures are in the mid/late 60mpg area and I average 45mpg doing much more extra-urban than urban driving.
Also, its worth mentioning that I'm no boy-racer and regularly get higher than the published figures when driving my DH's Discovery and my last car, a Mini.0 -
I had an 1.9pd Audi A4 and I got 50mpg no matter how I drove it (mostly 80mph)- brilliant engine.0
