  • Thankyou for the replies and advice everyone. I hope so too. Should I go along the lines of what I posted above, or go for a different approach?

  • Jeans and a blazer, casual yet shows you have made an effort! I wouldn't dress as if you're going for an office job, it's my personal opinion. I'd go looking smart/casual. I know looking smart is good but it could go the other way, you could look too overdressed. To be on the safe side, mix jeans with a blazer, the blazer is smart however jeans are (besides trackies) the most casual thing you could wear. Mix both and you can't go wrong. Good luck. :)
  • I always wear a coat out - I don't own a jacket... unless it's a leather one which I own three of :p. Obviously not suitable for an interview. And i'd probably be expected to take off my coat on arrival.

I'm also unemployed at the moment and don't have the money to spend on too many new clothes. What's wrong with wearing it alone underneath a a smart black coat?

A smart black coat would be fine. It is a nice outfit and i would wear it myself.

  • I used to own a black cropped blazer, which would be perfect. But I left it in a taxi a few months ago. Doh!

Oh and buy a new one, I got mine from Asda, £12.00 two years ago and it still does me :)

    Depends on the venue.

If it's waitressing for Hooters, I suspect you might want to rethink the corporate suit idea.
  • Primark has something similar to the one in next for half the price, so I may just have to go where I can afford... Even though the buttons will probably fall off as they often do :(. I do like the idea of jeans and something smart. I always dress smart anyway... But I don't have much plain black! Either or should be okay right?

Haha bendix, I found out recently that they have hooters in UK now. But no, it's not for in there although I heard it's good pay :rotfl:

try on your fave 3 outfits and take a pic of each, then upload to this thread so we can all have a good look, then a simple count of votes will give you the answer.

I really wouldn't wear jeans, unless you have nothing else suitable and they are very dark blue/ black denim and worn with boots/heels. If you are looking for jobs, a smart black dress/trousers is a good investment as suitable for a range of interviews. Looking smart is key for waitresses, and scruffy jeans for an interview are a no-no.

PS I don't think a jacket is a requirement for a waitressing job, just wear your coat and remove it when you chat. Shouldn't be overly formal setting for cafe.
