I have a can of bitter (left by a friend) and not being a bitter drinker was wondering if anyone has any ideas of something I could cook with it to save throwing it away????

I've got stewing steak in the freezer and mushrooms and gravy, do you think I could use ready made puff pastry on the top from my freezer?0 -

I don't eat meat any more but that sounds lovely. Got any carrots?
I'd combine the gravy and beer and then reduce it before assembling my pie. Keep the windows closed or you'll have all and sundry inviting themselves round for dinner.0 -
Beef in Beer is tasty, but Bitter can make the gravy bitter. I think it depends on the make, but nothing a stcok cube couldn't hide.
If you use chunks of beef, roll then in some flour first and fry gently til brown around the outside (adds some good flavour).
Slice onions and place in a casserole dish ( you could soften these if you like), add the beef and pour over the beer.
Cover and bake at 190C (ish) for 3 or so hours. Then turn off the oven and leave overnight. It continues to cook, and is so so tender in the morning.
Important! Do not open the oven door once you've turned it off, and make sure the dish is covered (with a fitted lid/ foil tightly sealed over). This means that the air inside is 'sterile' due to the high heat and no bacteria can get in so it's fine to leave it overnight.
In the morning you can put it in fridge; any excess fat will be floating on the top and will solidify so you can remove it easily.
I don't think I know of any other beer recipes (other than open can, pour in glass, drink), intrigued by beer in the Christmas pud!"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

I've seen stout in Christmas pud recipes but not actual beer. I'm sure that it makes little difference really.0

Delia's Christmas Pud recipe called for barley wine which is actually very high alcohol beer (over 8% they cant refer to it as beer). I wasnt going to buy another bottle of alcohol that I wont use so I put bitter in it instead (only called for 60ml) and I can confirm the pudding was lovely!0
