    Beef carbonade is delicious slow cooked beef stew.
    REcipe here http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/600810 calls for Belgian beer but I've always used bitter

    Thanks all for your great ideas, I'm going to give it a go tomorrow and see what happens.

    Just found a couple of carrots so I'm going to chuck those in too.

    My OH is already patting his tummy in anticipation!!!

    I know you've already decided on pie, but throwing out Jamie's Beef and Ale Stew (from Ministry of Food) for anyone else who picks up this thread later. I make it with bitter and it's lovely. Have to beat DH to the bottle though! :beer:
