    I've been Money Tipped!
My kids are having a Teacher training day on 18th, half term starts Monday after this. I don't have the right phone though...never mind. I can pay for a heck of a lot of entries into AT with the difference in price between my phone and an Iphone!

Last time AT let people in free you had to take a garden gnome with you, was 2005 - not that many people knew about the offer, so it was quiet.

    From Alton Towers website

How do I claim the Deal?
To take advantage of free entry to Alton Towers Theme Park, visit on Friday 18 February from 10am until 4pm and use Places on touch.facebook.com or Facebook for iphone / Blackberry to check-in and receive your tickets!
What phone do I need to claim the Deal?
You’ll need a smart phone to check-in on the day, an iPhone or Blackberry has the capability to check you in and some other brands of phone will also allow you to check-in.
I don’t have an iPhone or similar, does that mean I can’t claim the Deal?
You can download Facebook Places onto other phones, so it depends on your specific phone.
If I come with friends do we all need to check-in to claim the Deal?
No – For every phone that checks in to Alton Towers Resorts official check in page on Friday 18 February, a total of 4 guests will be able to enter the Theme Park Free of charge (subject to usual Theme Park Terms and Conditions). But please tag your friends if they are on Facebook.

Oh, that was in response to a book about days out, to gnome gardens or whatever, with a pic of a gnome on the front cover, called 'bollox to alton towers' :)

Lots of people abandoned their garden gnomes by the entrance, and Alton Towers decorated the park with them, especially along the riverbank ride :)

I don't think they have ever turned people away for capacity though (not even when all the annual pass holders went for bonfire night), and this is a school day in the FREEZING off-season. I don't think it will be too busy, not all of the big rides are open and the terms are a bit confusing, so I think many people will prefer to wait until the Sun do their free ticket offer and rita and 13 will be open.

It's around half price during the feb half term anyway, so you're saving less than £20 rather than the full price. I asked my husband about going (during half term) at lunchtime and he moaned about how cold it always is (Alton Towers is always a lot colder than our home town despite being under the same weather forecast).

I think Alton are going to make money out of all the hot drinks they sell, and everyone who gets there before 10 to try for the free hotel stay will be buying lunch if their hands are too frozen for a picnic on the lawn :) There's not much indoor stuff, and places like Wobble World (soft play for kids under 120cm) have an expensive coffee shop selling overpriced ice cream.

can't imagine they'd be selling much of that then:rotfl:

My kids would eat ice cream in any weather, they're bonkers like that!

I've got an android phone, it was free with my £15 a month contract. I offered to lend it but nobody local wanted to take their kids out of school on the non-uniform day.

  • We were intending to go, that was until on Wednesday my son whose birthday it was yesterday (we were taking him for a birthday treat) started crying and telling us we were so mean "making" him go to Alton Towers instead of school!! Bless, now it will cost a fortune to go later on in the year

    Awww bless him :)

If you go during half term it's around half price I think, you can book on their website. Or you can use BOGOFs during the year.

If you don't mind taking a day out of school you could try the offer that the SUN newspaper usually runs - you choose a block of dates and they allocate you tickets for a random day within that block, I think that's how it works anyhow.
