What tools do you keep in your car?

If im going on holiday (UK) i take enough tools to be able to do an engine or gearbox change.
The 1st time i take nothing i know i will need them.
Confused as to why a jump pack would fry the electrics on a modern car? Its just a 12v battery to help boost
the battery on the car if its voltage is a bit low.
Cant be worse than the smart charge system on my car that can pt out 18v+ to rapidly recharge a battery
that is low on power.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Allison, it depends on how handy you are. If you know your way around your car, decent tools are great. If you don't know much about cars, they're not a lot of use.0

I used to think that but then it occurred to me that the tool box occupying 10% of my boot space and that really took two people to move, actually hadn’t been opened in anger for more than 5 years.
Since then it lives in the workshop. I do take a small box when we venture into Europe but again, I can’t remember ever using it.
Different story in the 70s & 80s with imps cortinas escorts etc but modern cars (mine at least) just don’t seem to break down

Me too - I don't pretend to understand car electrics.
But one or two jump packs have warnings on the label about their unsuitability for use with cars with ECUs, which I believe most modern cars have.0 -

That sounds like a throwover sticker from ye olden days when ECU's started to appear in cars. Or to warn stoopid Americans.
I use jump packs as my preferred method of starting a car - maybe used one 20 times without incident. The man without a signature.0 -
i have jump leads and an empty petrol can and always tools and random car bits
i very rarely have a spare tire as i never go that far and its just extra weight that i dont need to drag about
in the audi a4 i carry a spare coil pack and thats about it
i have some ball joints and spare plug lead kicking around in the vauxhall - i actually changed a cv joint on my nova on the side of the a1. It broke before i got to where i was going so i did a quick cv joint change near hatfeild.
i went to a mini show once in newquay and my engine packed up so i bought one from the auto jumble and stuck it in with the help of some beers and away it went. loads of people helped as well to lift it out. it caused a bit of a crowd to gather round and people were running off to get different tools
and cable ties and jubilee clips the amount of things these can be used for is amazing0 -
