When using a car wash you need to understand that minor damage is a possibility. All it takes is some grit to be lodged in the rollers and that will produce scratches. That's the nature of car washes. It's not negligence unless the machine is broken and Tesco didn't bother repairing it, or if they hadn't properly cleaned it. If you want to go down the compensation route then phone up your insurance company but I'll bet you a coconut Tesco won't pay out. Do you sue the Highways Agency for stone chips when you drive on the motorway? Of course not. It's the same thing. No offence, but you can't be that bothered about the state of your car if you take it through a car wash. I don't want scratches on my car so I hand wash it, simple.
