If its a Acer or Packard Bell then they and Gateway are now the same company (pretty much, Packard Bell was going up for sale, but had offered Gateway the choice of first dibs a while back, but Acer wanted to buy Packard Bell to increase their Euro presence, so purchased Gateway, who then purchased Packard Bell. They still operate different brands, but combined hardware and software R&D) so it wouldn't be uncommon for parts to be interchangeable.
ANY system which has a MoBo replacement will pop up with the Windows genuine activation issue. Usually its a phonecall to Microsoft and the problems fixed.0
