Moving from Orange contract to Orange PAYG

My friend is currently with Orange on a Canary contract tariff giving her 160 minutes and unlimited texts (she thinks). She also thinks is at the point where she can cancel it without penalty. Her handset needs replacing but it's possible she may be moving abroad within the next year so renewing the contract to get an upgrade is not an option. Given that she wants to keep her number and get a Nokia 2730, can anyone suggest good ways to achieve this?

My idea is to get an Orange PAYG 2730 and simply put her existing Orange SIM in that. The problem with this is that a PAYG 2730 costs £50 but it seems you also have to buy £20 credit on the included SIM meaning we've wasted £20 on putting credit on a SIM she won't use.

All suggestions or ideas gratefully received!

Many thanks

Why not buy a PAYG Nokia 2730 from mobiles.co.uk

It is only listed as £39.90 with a £10 top up - so a total of £49.90
Also £6 cashback if you use https://www.quidco.com/mobiles-co-uk

Free delivery, spare SIM with £10 on - give to a friend or just keep for extra 2-for-1 Wednesday cinema tickets. Phone has still cost less than the £49.99 Orange price.

Put current contract SIM in new phone. This will work.
Cancel contract whenever you like if it is out of minimum term.

This looked good until I saw they use DHL and only deliver to the card-holder's address. As I'm one of these unusual people who has a job and isn't able to wait at home all day, this means a 40 minute drive to their depot (and I don't have a car!).

I see that site is part of Carphone Warehouse but their site (where I assume I can pick it up in-store) shows it as being £10 more. I suppose that's still £10 less than I was originally looking at...

  • Hi geojay

If you do go for that phone and register the new SIM we can transfer the credit that comes with it to your original number once it has been moved to PAYG. It should only take a couple of minutes to do by calling CS. Alternatively if you have FB or Twitter you can contact my colleagues at our pages below and they will do it for you.

    Hope this helps.
