Has a seller ever 'won' a dispute?

As above really. I had some problems with a buyer which some of you kindly helped me with last week.
Of course he now says the item is not the one in the picture (it is) etc etc and has opened a dispute.
Paypal have found in his favour. (bit of irony there).
Okey dokey now I dont care if I ever sell an item ever again. Soon as this is over paypal/ e bay etc are out of my life.
I just wondered if anyone has ever 'won'?
I'd like to start collating some information on these 'cases' thank you.

I could do a poll thing if anyone thinks that would be easier?

Yes, I've won a few, not really had many disputes. A couple of non delivery claims and we had proof of postage and a claim of item not as described when they had sent a message saying they thought they'd paid too much for it in auction.
    .
  • I have had quite a few disputes. I win about half. The other half are scammers/chancers. 99% of the time they side with buyers. Powersellers tend to fair a bit better. It takes a very canny seller who has been stiffed many times to play the system and win.

The thing about ebay/Paypal is you must accept at the outset that there is a possibility you will be giving it away come what may. Its the nature of the beast.

Most of the time things will go OK, but now and again, despite your best efforts, you will be scammed. You may be scammed by a dishonest seller/buyer, or by eBay/Paypal themselves.

"Disputes" are resolved by Indians just ticking check boxes, not by people who speak native English -- its a crap shoot.

Accept that you may end up giving the item away, and very occasionally get stiffed by fees on top and also thus lose money, and you will be fine. Its like a casino; don't play if you cant afford to lose your shirt.

Soolin or Crowqueen will now tell us all that eBay is a lovely fluffy place, full of great honest folks, and everyone should welcome Paypal and lose 4%, and why I am totally wrong despite running two powerseller accounts. :p

What does nationality have to do with it?
If the people ticking boxes where white English, Australian, South African etc etc would the outcome be different? I think not, they follow ebay's and PP's polcies.

Both ebay and paypal are foreign companies, actually one BIG foreign company, but you don't mention that.

    Disgusting!

So it is so bad that you run 2 accounts :rotfl:

It's funny but when I think something is that bad i don't use it anymore.

If you don't like it, there are plenty of other ways to make a living from ecommerce. Build your own website, take your own payments through a credit card merchant account - but you won't, because your overheads will probably much higher.

As matter of fact CQ, that's exactly what I did. I know a few others that have done the same. We run a shopping cart that funnels through Nochex as a payment provider. Nochex do not allow spurious charge backs and their fees are cheaper than Paypal.

I do comparatively little on eBay now, and only very cheap stuff that we can afford to lose to the odd scammer. We use ebay as a funnel onto our own sites.

We run two accounts to keep two entirely different genres apart. Yes, the eBay/Paypal combine is hideously expensive in fees. Yes, chargeback and "not as described" scammers abound. But that said, a few quid is a few quid isn't it?

Anything worth more than a tenner or so goes by Recorded Delivery, that tends to put the chargeback brigade off a bit.

You miss the point. These people do not speak native English. Some hardly speak English at all. That means they misunderstand much and make mistakes. It happens a lot.

Why do you think some firms trumpet "UK Call Centres"? Because they know people are fed up with "customer service" that is located on the Indian sub continent.

hahahahahahahahahahaha that made my day, reading that I'm not the only one who believes that the nonsense spouted by these two is complete rubbish most of the time, only intended to upset or irritate genuine sellers!

You only tend to win cases where the buyer makes a mistake, such as leaving feedback that says lovely colour, or nice fit and then claiming it isn't as described or doesn't fit etc.

I have had cases where buyer claimed INR and I could prove otherwise too, usually items sent by courier where another family member may have signed for it.
It may sometimes seem like I can't spell, I can, I just can't type
