I've been there in July, it was about 45 C and 80% humidity, was only possible to spend about 20mins outdoors before it started to become unbearable. Unless you plan on hopping from hotel to taxi to shopping mall, I would think twice - certainly beaches are out of the question. Luckily I was on business rather than attempting to holiday.

Don't even think about trying to get a tan!!! You will burn in minutes. Covering up with loose, lightweight clothing is the order of the day - also the locals will have more respect for you that way.
  • Wow - I didn't realise it would be that unbearable!
It's my friend's dad who actually lives there, so will be staying with him. I suppose he will give me some needed info too about the weather and stuff.

I guess the beach is a no-go area then!

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Treat yourselves to an excursion to see the conditions that construction workers from the Asian sub-continent have to live and work in.
Have a look at their pay-slips too, that's if they've got one between the lot of 'em.
    Very sad!

Summer heat in Dubai is pretty unbearable. I lived there for nearly 4 years, I didn't realise how hot it would get so stayed over there for the summer during my first year - I didn't do it again! The following 3 years, I left there in June and didn't return until September. Lots of women & kids do this the minute the schools finish for the summer hols, so it would be a fairly child free environment for you!!

Shopping and lunch out will be pretty much all you'll do during the day, you might find you can sit out in the evenings, but even then, it's still very hot. You could visit other areas, Hatta Fort is lovely, but again, it's a desert heat so will be unbearable.

    Putting slavery aside....
I really enjoyed just taking it easy on the Dubai side of the Creek, people watching, and all the life around the abra-stations.
And the dhow traffic making their way up and down the Creek, wondering where they were all going or come from, and whether there were intrepid travellers onboard.
The Dubai Museum is very close to the Creek.
There's also an interesting tunnel below the Creek linking Dubai and the other side (Deira).
Walk along the tunnel to Deira, and you'll be rewarded with some of the lively souqs closeby.
Give the beaches a wide berth, and get stuck into the hustle and bustle of Emirate life.

Let's say you find a flight for £370 return, is that too expensive for a summer holiday where you can't go to the beach?
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • I have found flights on the 20th June for £315 return with Swiss.
I am excited to visit the Dubai mall, it sounds really good :)

I think I am in for a shock when I arrive there!, in regards to the heat!
I would go earlier, but I don't have any free time to do this as I'm a university student.

Katty bunny - I've been to Dubai at the beginning of July and yes it was hot but more than manageable yes the sand is hot but it's like that in Spain too, just wear sandals/flip flops on the beach it's a great place to go - it was very humid so taking pictures at night isn't great but other than that you'll have a brilliant time - most places houses/hotels are air conditioned so you'll be fine sleep we flew klm

Thanks a lot for the info!
Gives me a lot more confidence now, and maybe I will be able to last outdoors without getting burned to a crisp. I do tan easily (great grandma's indian), and don't tend to burn, but obviously I am going to prepare for high factor sun cream! :o

    Thanks again.

  • I agree with the people who say Dubai is unbearable. It really is. To be honest there's virtually nothing to do there apart from the shopping malls!

Dubai isn't like NYC or London. You cannot walk anywhere because of the distance and heat, therefore you will be spending most of your time in taxi's.

Dont forget the UAE is an Islamic country and you must respect local culture or else you could find yourself in trouble, like many other Brits have.
