Thank you, As I am new didn't know where to post this but guess will figure this out in time lolThe day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.0 -
Well I'm not sure you'll be a very good foster carer, kids often ask random about many random questions about many random topics and if that is your attitude you wont get very far.
Don't you worry I'm very good with children hence why I've gotten as far as I have in life. The day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.0 -

I'm doing my spare room for where the foster child [ren] will stay and wonder what I should put in there? can't make it boy like or girl like as could get either but don't want it to look plain like I've made no effort, any ideas? The day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. I'm a foster carer with my partner. We're approved for 5-11s although the last girl with us turned 12
We don't have a child here at the moment due to some illness in my partner's family and it would be difficult to manage the frequent visits with a child so we are waiting but I'd be happy to answer any questions although we are still relatively new. We've been fostering for about 2 years and have had three children (at different times).
All of them have been an absolute pleasure - nothing like the scare stories we were fed in the run up.. !
To be honest, one of the main things is to have patience and some of the posting doesn't actually read very polite. Being polite is just as important on the internet as it is face to face.
I am polite but I'm no push over and won't have any one talk to me the way she did at the start. I'm new on here and wasn't sure how forms were done or that they were in the order they are, I thought they all went together.
I also know a foster carer who is in her 50's been doing this a long time and she's not one to be walked over, foster carers need to be strong people as I am. I wasn't rude but defending myself.
Can I ask do you work for the council or agency? The day I had my Beautiful son is the day everything came together for me. For someone so small he done so much and made me complete.0 -
You were actually extremely rude!0

Are you going to be a LA carer? I work for an independent agency and we are getting hardly any placements in this current climate.
Good luck, it is certainly challenging but really makes a difference.0 -
I'm with the local authority. Whenever we've made ourselves available, we have had a placement within days - but we take breaks between placements for ourselves! Trust me, no-one walks over me - I'm a social worker - but there's a difference between not being a walkover and being courteous.. no matter anyway, happy to answer any questions0

I would avoid any stereotypical ideas about what's suitable for boys and girls, but I'm sure that's been covered in your training.0
