    BT Vision isnt just iPlayer.

So what else has it got, my TV can get Lovefilm, though I'm too mean to pay for it.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Compared to my Sony IP HDTV I can see no compelling reason to pay anything like that amount of money for BT Vision.

The Vision+ box - I have a PVR already. Plus the BT box isn't capable of Freeview HD unlike PVRs currently on the market.

Catch up On Demand services - BT Vision offers a BT specific version of iPlayer, plus ITV Player & 4od. My Sony TV has full iPlayer & Demand Five, so the only benefit is ITV & C4.

On Demand Films - My Sony TV has Love Film via subscription or a new Sony Pay As You Go service. Why would I want the BT version??

Sports - if you really want Sky Sports via Digital Terrestrial you can pay Top Up TV for them on their own rather than pay for all the other BT Vision stuff as well.

So I personally see no reason to go with BT Vision, especially if you have one of the latest IPTVs where a lot of the content is free anyway.

Well if you already have a PVR, are paying Love Film, have an internet connected TV, will get Sky Sports via TopUp TV, can actually receive Freeview HD and dont want the other on demand content on BTV I can see that it's probably not for you.

Sorry - should have been clearer. I don't pay for LoveFilm subscription (although could) but find the Qriocity PAYG films much more cost effective for my infrequent viewing. And I don't watch Sky Sports (although I could via Top Up TV).

What i'm trying to say is that the Sony, like most modern IPTVs, let's you access most of the services available via BT Vision if you so wish, but with a lot more flexibility allowing you to reduce costs assuming you don't want everything bundled.

True enoughif you have an IPTV. Although I dont have an IPTV, despite my Sony being less that 2 years old, I do have a Sony Blu Ray that can acesss the Iplayer, Love Film etc. I havent been tempted to use it as it doesnt give me anything significant I haven't already got via BTV already.

I dont have to pay any subscriptions from BTV at all and can just operate on a PAYG basis, so it's a bit of a no brainer to have the service regardless. As it happens, we get a lot of use from the basic subscription, so the price reduction is a bonus.

Lovefilm includes access to over 70k films and TV series boxsets, your more expensive BT subscriptions includes access to 75... not 75k, 75.

Th real downside of BTV is that it requires you to have BT Broadband though...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

The 70K refers to Blu Rays and DVD's, the online content is substantially less, more like 4500.

Still, a good number, but I would loose ESPN and the access to Sky Sports 1&2, so not attractive to me at the moment. What does the figure of 75 for BTV refer to ?

and no you do not need BT vision to have access to any of those sports channels via your aerial, I'm sure it must have it uses for someone but I cant for the life of me see that it does anything not better served elsewhere, and nothing ive read makes me any the wiser to its purpose except to attempt to retain brand loyal customers to BT in the face of media package competition from VM / sky et al.

Just out of interest are you employed by BT? pretty much all your posts on here and digital spy are in defence of negative BT posts be it broadband, phone or TV.
