buying an old renault laguna 16v privilege as 1st car
Hi there guys , I am being offered by a reliable friend of mine a Renault Laguna 1800cc 16v Privilege model. it is Y reg 2001, It has done 66000 miles and he wants to sell it to me for 2800 pounds. Do you think it is a good deal.
The next cost for it is 280 pounds for a service when it has done 72000 miles.
the car in itself has lovely interiors and exteriors. He has also changed the front 2 tyres and a belt in the time that he has had it. (He bought it for 4400 £ in beginning of the year).
do you advice me to buy this car, or would you be cautious.

It's not a bad price for a very comfortable cruiser if it's in good condition. You should be able to a get a service far cheaper than £280 if budget is a problem. However, assuming the car is as described, and it's a car you want, then go for it.0

I have recently purchase a '96 2.2 Diesel RN with 119000 on the clock and it runs like a dream (touch wood). Bear in mind that any foriegn car is likely to cost you more in repairs etc than a british car, however, most British cars/parts are sourced from outside uk these days.Halifax Personal Loan £23,000 :think:0 -
Beware, Renaults have a lot of electrical problems which are costly to repair, also the key card system is diabolical, we have a Laguna estate 2001 and having terrible problems with the central locking/dash lights etc. Every time it goes in the garage for a diagnosis costs £76 for the first hour and every problem is hundreds to fix! Beware.

I have heard the same about the laguna, alot have problems and could work out costly. You should also factor in insurance and petrol cost as 1.8 is not cheap. I would start with a 1.2/1.4 jap/german cars to build up NCD, ford fiesta are also fine.0
