Hi

I am not sure if this is the correct forum.

My daughter has a o2 contract and cut a long story short - she is in the army and therefore does not live in this country.

She owes us alot of money and as have had to pay her phone bills for the last 3 months as she did not have the money.

We have had a big argument as she was going to send her mobile back here and I was going to use it and pay the monthly bill of the standard amount of £25 but she has decided she is not going to do this.

So I have told her this is the last time we do this for her and we are not going to help her with money by paying her phone bills as they are high amounts. The bill is in her name but the address is here.

What I would like to know is if next month she cannot pay her bill what happens? Will this have any affect on this address and our credit history as we have never missed any payments on any of our bills.

Many Thanks for any replies.

Mandy

some networks allowed the contract to be suspended if you are in the services and abroad
It is not unusual for parents to be affected by their child's debt issues.
It is very much a growing problem and the following information and link can resolve the problem of being refused credit for no fault of your own.

You may even have debt collection proceedings being threatened at your address for another individual or family member. Help is available, call us free for more advice.
    Notice of Dissociation
You need to complete a Notice of Dissociation if you want your credit application to be viewed independently from another person whose information is included on your credit file.

If you can prove you have no active financial connection with another person (a third party) registered at your address and you do not want a lender to associate you with their information, you can request a Notice of Dissociation to be loaded to your credit file.
    • This will then automatically filter out the third party information so lenders will no longer be able to see it.
    • The Notice of Dissociation is available from Experian

  • Hi

Many thanks for your quick response.

I do not think she is on our credit file as some years ago I requested a copy of mine and my husbands credit file and I did declare I was associated with my husband. The file came through and only had my husbands name on. So would that still mean we are not financial associated?

If we are not financially associated what would o2 do with getting the money as we do not want reminders from debt collectors coming to this address?. She leaves in Germany so is not on active service.

    Many Thanks

    Mandy
  • I forgot to add we have never been refused credit out remortgage went through last year and husband has just been accepted for a 0% credit card.

    Thanks again

    then 2 choices

    1) send back letters with "not at this address"

    2) supply her address in Germany and let them try and chase it

If she doesnt pay the bills unless she changes the address on file the letters will go to your address.

If shes not going to pay the bills chances are she won't be changing the address.

But I don't think generally credit files go on address but by the individual so it'll be her file affected. But keep an eye on yours anyway so if anything does show up you can get it removed/corrected quickly.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
