Thames water problem!!!!!

Hi, I really need some help with regards to my Thames Water problem.

I rang them a few weeks ago to say that the stopcock outside my property boundary has ceased up. They came round and repaired this but after they did, I noticed that my pressure went low. So I called them out again and they said there is a leak between the outside stopcock and my internal stoptap, but they said not to worry as it most likely is that the stopcock wasnt repaired properly.

After they came out to do this, they told me that it was due to the stopcock that wasnt repaired properly. I noticed that they went away but left a leak about 5" away from my stopcock and water was flowing out onto the paement.

They said they would have a look at it on thursday but never turned up, I was told the same on Friday and they didnt turn up again!!!A contractor from mouchel came out just now and said he wants me to sign a letter saying its my fault as the leak is literally on the edge of my front wall and Thames water will say it is down to me. I refused to do this....

Please advice me further on what action to now take and how to proceed further???

    Don't sign the letter.

You cannot be held liable for leaks outside your property boundary. Not ever ! ! Only those within your boundary.

It seems to me that they may have caused a leak when they got your outside stopcock working. Ask them to come back, and fix the leak (that they probably caused under the public foot-way.) (Better to fit a new stopcock) This should also give you better "pressure" (the pressure doesn't actually go up - but more of the water goes thru your pipe instead of leaking out in the ground.

Thames Water used to have a free leak repair service. If the leak is under your wall or further along under your garden/drive - ask whether they still do the free leak repair. If not it may be repaired at a subsidised rate.

Ask Mouchel (or Thames) to prove the leak is within your property boundary before agreeing t anything.

I am not sure where the leak is exactly coming from but I believe it is so close to my wall that its hard to call. Basically my front garden is not getting wet at all, the water is coming out onto the footpath from literally one inch away from my wall and then going onto the road and into the drains. It has definitely been caused by the repairers that came out to fix my stopcock.

As far as I am aware, thames water just give you a cash incentive when you get the leak repaired or pipe changed. I am just upset and stressed because I have not caused this leak so there is no reason why I should pay for it.

Let them prove to you that the leak is on your pipework. OR tell them the leak is on their pipework and they have a duty to repair it. - If they feel that they can prove that its your responsibility - let them do so.

Wait until they have dug the footway up to repair or replace their stopcock - then if they say the leak is under your wall, ask them to repair the pipe while they have the hole open.

    Sorry for the delay...

Just to let you all know and to help someone in the future that after refusing to sign any letters, and speaking to a manager through the customer relations team, thames water decided to fix the repair themselves...the manager who called didn't even want to see the leak, he just said someone would be out the next day to fix it which was the case...the engineers that came out said the leak was 99% caused by the engineers that fixed the stopcock because they must have hammered the pipe by accident but went away without accepting what they had done grrr!!

I probably could've asked for a goodwill gesture but didn't bother as I was happy that they fixed the leak and noi more water was being wasted.

Thanks to all for your help..
