Potentially money owed to BT, Talk Talk line rental question

                    Hi
We've had our phone line disconnected for quite some time, I think but am not certain there is a £30-40 bill that we owe BT (line rental - didn't pay as the service they provided was abysmal). However they've never sent us any letters to that effect.
So do I need to call them up and clear it before I can go and get Talk Talk line rental instead? Don't want to open up a can of worms.

You won't be able to sign up with any other provider on that line until it is reconnected, which presumably will require you to pay any outstanding debt plus the reconnection charge. A working BT line is required for any ADSL service.
Or TT can supply you with a new line, for which a connection charge is payable. But are you really sure you want to go with TT though?
If you've never heard from BT then it's likely that they've sold the debt on, if there is one.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Called them up, they said there was no debt - which is bizarre, the line was however stopped - so perhaps they wiped the months rental that time due to all the mistakes they had made. Got myself the line rental from BT (would have preferred to get that from O2), and on Feb 1st once it is activated I'm going with O2 for broadband as I am already with them for my mobile.
Thanks for the answer, decided against Talk Talk after hearing nothing but bad about them!0
