If someone looking for laptop advice sees wide-ranging comments like 'avoid all HP laptops' and then the next comment is 'every HP laptop is brilliant' what conclusion are they going to arrive at?
That's an easy answer: they walk away even more confused, and ignore comments which may prove useful.
It would be far better to provide positive experience of what makes a good laptop reliable, in your view, and relate that to the model being considered.0 -
We don't seem to learn on this forum.

Here's a survey of over 30,000 laptops from just over a year ago:

Who came out on top fror the least failures in the first three years of ownership? Asus, then Toshiba. Who came bottom? HP.0 -

To say they are aware of reliability is an understatement. The HP Envy line is something of a testbed for structural changes which will make it through to cheaper models in their laptop lineup.0 -
If you want build quality then Panasonic Toughbooks and IBM Thinkpads are probably the best places to go. If you want a reasonably priced machine with decent build quality and performance, then HP isn't even on the menu.0

The word "cheap" comes to mind, you get what you pay for and Asus doesn't have renowned quality like Dell or HP, especially the "Eee" PC!!
I wouldn't recommend buying one of these but maybe someone can prove me wrong!
Don't know where you get your info from but ASUS are pretty good laptops.
"Renowned quality like Dell or HP" Hmmmmm the higher end dell laptops have ASUS components. The lower end Dells have very cheap components.0 -

PLease note that these weren't business class laptops.0 -
Asus are indeed a good manufacturer. In the last few years they have been in the top 5 largest manufacturers and have won contracts form the likes of Apple and Dell etc to supply their laptops (or at least significant components). You could go for another brand but chances are there may be some Asus tech in there anyway. So if you see an Asus laptop you like I wouldn't discount it just because you haven't heard of the brand.0
