BT Hub vs Virgin wireless

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but the Search facility keeps coming up empty!
Does anybody know anything about the BT Hub....how good is it, is it a decent Wireless Router, which I presume it to be? I am presently with Virgin, £17.99 for basically 1mb., as we are a way from the BT Exchange, and this seems to be the max. The connection keeps breaking, despite having OK filters, and I wonder if it is due to the length of cabling, about 15 metres of C5, I beleive it is called???
I think I could do with wireless anyway, as the kids both have PCs/laptops, and I was just trying to compare with the Virgin Wireless package.
BT also mention phone calls....would this mean I can ditch the phone and save the line rental?
Any help/comparisons very welcome.

please don't go with BT. I have BT BB and it is absolutely rubbish (see my post). Several people have said that the free phone call quality isn't good. Scroll through this branch and you'll find a lot of people all complaining about poor BT service.
I suggest Waitrose or Zen broadband - both came top in Aug 06 Which magazine survey.0 -
Thanks. It is a Network cable I think....it is much thicker than a phone extension, clear plastic and an 'armoured' type twisted wire inside? I am fairly sure it was called Cat 5?O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
