Just an update- DS was in town for a party yesterday so I nipped into Lidl (amongst other things!) and got some of their chocolate chips and cake decorating sprinkles that DS had asked for a week ago...spent just under £4, and was glad I had waited as some of them were cheaper than when we first saw them :D. Our budget goes until 14/2 so we are getting close to the end money wise. Have enough food in though :).

  • Went out to pick up Milk, bread and yogs and ended up spending £30 in morrisons and lidl. This stupid shop has taken me close to me budget:eek:
I don't need anything but its a habit to go shopping at the weekend with my Mother. It leaves me with £10 for next 2 weeks which is going to be tricky as I will need milk and bread next week.
Do any other posters just go shopping out of routine even though they don't need anything.
I will try harder and work next week so resist temptation. I buy biscuits and cakes but would like to progress to making these instead can anyone recommend a good basic book or website to look at so next month I can give it a ago.:j

REDKIDS1972 - I don't think I speak for just myself that I often pop to the shops for milk and come away £30 lighter - it is so easy to do and so easy to view things that a bargains that we don'e actually need. I am trying a different approach this month and have meal planned, done my shopping list on mysupermarket so there is no deliberating in the supermarket and I am off to do that this afternoon. I shouldn't need anything else this week so I'm going to take my cash cards out of my purse. This fills me with utter dread but I feel it's the only way to curb my habitual spending!!

AS for cook books I can recommend Mary Berry cakes book - brilliant and no fuss - Good Luck!

Not having a very good day today - I wanted to go to Mr T today to get some extra food for next week, but all the trains were down so I would have to get a replacement bus.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise actually, because when I got home I realized that the freezer door didn't close because there is a huge ice block there.

So - I've had to defrost:

    Taste the difference burgers (flatmates)
    Sausages
    Chicken breasts
    Chicken thighs
    Turkey roast joint
Frozen spinach (only a few pieces left so not bothered about these)
1 jar of frozen red wine, and 1 jar frozen white wine (it will be okay to refreeze these won't it?)
    Pack of part baked bread
    Some pitta breads

Today will be a cooking day!!!

I'm going back to my parents for my mums birthday on Friday so I need to use it before then!

    Dinners:

Monday (I'm cooking) - Roast Turkey joint with veg and mash
Tuesday (Flatmate cooking) - Chicken breasts with couscous and roasted veg
Wednesday (Flatmate cooking): Sausages and mash
Thursday (I'm cooking): Chicken thighs with five spice and rice

Thinking of lunches (for both my flatmate and me)

    Monday: Burger, part baked baguette
    Tuesday: Burger, part baked baguette
Wednesday: Leftover turkey, part baked baguette
    Thursday: Leftover turkey, pitta bread

Does this sound okay? If I cook turkey on Monday will it keep until Thursday? The freezer will hopefully be okay by Wednesday because I bought some quiches which are OOD on the 9th Feb (I was planning on having these for lunches this week, but as you can see I've had to have a change of plans).

Because my flatmate has used my chicken breasts he said he will buy potatoes and green beans next week, so it should be NSDs all the way!

Updated my total with spends this weekend. Spent more than planned as DD2 had friends sleepover Friday night so extra mouths to feed and we had friends come over for Dinner yesterday so had to buy some Wine to go with Dinner.:o

The bonus of having to entertain is that there are plenty of Leftovers in the Fridge so we shall have those for Dinner tonight, also plenty of half eaten puds left to choose from.:p

Noticed in L!dl that they have the 7.5kg bags of potatoes in again, £2.69 and you get a good mixture of sizes, some are even big enough to use as Bakers.

Off to make some cakes/biscuits for this week's lunchboxes - enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.:D

I've never done this before and any ideas for a budget for a singleton would be appreciated... and tips on saving money when shopping etc

As a random guestimate i'll say £80 a month for just me and thats for food/toiletries/washing powder from Saino's :)
