Naz101, You could call or e mail them if it's easier - details on their website. I do hope you can find a way of donating again:

For anyone interested in giving blood for the first time:

I donate blood platelets (went today funnily enough) feel free to PM me if you'd like to know what is involved at a donor session. It's particularly important to me at the moment as a 42 y/o friend is battling liver cancer

Also, how many people reading this have registered on the organ donor or bone marrow databases ?
Giving blood is such a generous thing to do and will have such an amazing impact on someone's life.
Sorry if I sound like I work for the Blood Service - I don't !
Linda xx
Tried calling them but its the number for england and wales... maybe I should have said im in scotland:o
I also tried registering for bone marrow donation but was told the same thing, along with the talk of it will keep me away from my job as a medic so they dont recommend it??0 -
I'm in it for the Paperweight at 75 donations then the whisky thing the bagpipe player drinks out of at 100 donations.
*Edit*
Also to help people I should add, (plus its a time to get together with palls, started a little blood group with my flatmates and friends)
Go give blood and have cookies and tea after, perfect afternoon.
Seeing as I live next to (close enough) to the main Edinburgh blood donation centre I hope they do platelets.0 -
Missuno, how allergic are you to latex? I am made to carry an epipen although I have never needed to use it.
The reason I ask is if you are bad too then hopefully if I go back now it might not be a problem???;)
It just tends to irritate my skin and break me out in a rash. I use latex free gloves at home if I need to protect my hands.
A latex allergy should not prevent a donation as they have alternatives such as using vinyl gloves etc.
Call the free phone number on the website or go along to your next local blood drive and speak to the nurse.
While I'm out of action from being able to donate for medical reasons, I need as many other people to fill in as possible, keep up with the supply and demand yeah.
And no I do not think "fear of needles" is a valid excuse (If I had a penny for every time I'd heard that one...) as I hate them myself, but I just look away and keep talking to somebody to take my mind off the needle. This post was brought to you from the vortex of a human psyche, it was approved by my poor judgement. :T0 -

can`t donate re tatoos but certain medication you can, I take prescription which is checked ...never turned down yet0 -
Surely one could hold off getting a new tattoo for 4/5 months in order to make a blood donation? If not I'm surprised you have any skin left to tattoo at all. This post was brought to you from the vortex of a human psyche, it was approved by my poor judgement. :T0

I managed to give blood a total of three times before they changed the rules re: not donating if you have had a transfusion. You'd think they'd be willing to check to see if your blood is OK but of course it's more money and time etc. Really wish I could still donate. I had the transfusion after donating bone marrow to my sister so it was for a good cause though :-):heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

well I have just found out for sure that I cannot donate bone marrow.
They still state that a latex allergy is a no no:(0 -

I havent managed to find this out yet. I just happened to know someone who recruits for bone marrow donation and it clearly states on their sheets that people with latex allergies cant donate.
I am going to try and call the donor centre tomorrow. Think their call centre was shut over the weekend (Scotland) as it kept prompting me to press 1 if I had a medical emergency that the staff needed to know about? dont think my enquiry quite cuts it as an emergency:p0 -
final update. I called the glasgow centre directly and they have said they cant guarantee that i wont be exposed to latex somewhere along the process so they wont be able to accept me as a patient.
oh well:(0
