i'm looking for a printer that gets the best value for money in black ink.
i mostly need to print stuff out just for my records (black and white) so i don't need anything special as long as the ink is cheap.
any advice out there apprecitated.

You can get CISS (continuous/bulk ink systems) for many Epson models and that works out dazzlingly cheap. I got one for an old DX4850 (a £40 printer) for £8 incl 400ml (4x100ml) of ink (compared with the usual 4 x 7ml in cartridges!) - and top ups are a staggering 69p/100ml from buytech.0

Epson probably covered by the largest range of compatible suppliers .
Canon very good if you buy a printer with individual ink tanks .

Been filling my cli-8's since new 3+ years now. CIS seems a bit troublesome if not printing much. Google printer model and refilling before purchasing.0

Just be warned, some printers do not like compatible inks. I have an Epson SX 415 in which I use genuine inks, about £7 per cartridge via Amazon.0

I got a Kodak ESP-3250, it's an all in one scanner, photocopier, printer. It is colour but I wanted mainly B+W, and though the printer itself wasn't the cheapest - just over £100 I think - the ink has worked out very well, and I don't have to go into the shops to buy it, I just order online. Anally, I have a sticker on the printer where I write down what date I changed the cartridges on. I put a new black one in on 7.3.10 and replaced it on 17.6.10, then again at Xmas. And I do print a fair bit, though I set it to "draft" mode to conserve ink. It's £6.99 for a standard black refill, though if you order online you have p+p. There are deals on amazon with free p+p but I've always gone to Kodak myself so I can't vouch for those deals.
It did advertise itself in the shop as "cheapest ink on the market" and I was sceptical, which is why I have logged the ink replacement dates...and I am pretty pleased, to be honest.0 -

Please will you let me know how I can set it to draft mode. I used to do this with my HP printer but am still learning with the Kodak one. Many Thanks0 -
Further to my last comment, I have installed Inksaver on to my laptop which adjusts the amount of ink used. I reduce to 45% for black ink at the moment.0
