yesmy god, you're young... go for it man!
I raised (and paid out) £2,500 for a 3 week trip to the World Scout Jamboree in Chile back in 1998, and it was worth every second, and every penny...
Do it while you can - if you don't, you'll be kicking yourslef for teh rest of your life for a missed opportunity/0 -

It might be useful for Chris to know what kind of fundraising activities you undertook. How long did it take to reach your 2500 target? I'm guessing it didn't involve ticket touting on ebay.
Someone I know tried to make money on Madonna tickets and lost money so I wouldn't say it's a guaranteed fundraiser. Are they like for like tickets? Some may be in demand whilst others not so. Raising 3500 is going to be hard work and timeconsuming whatever method you use and you should think seriously about your commitment to this project and it's actual value to you and the people you are 'helping'. Then compare it to other worthwhile projects, of which there are many both abroad and in the UK.
My project heavily involved Scuba diving which reflected an interest I already had therefor I was committed. I'm guessing Amba was probably involved in the Scout movement already.0 -
Just a little food for thought... If you buy things from a wholesaler and then sell it on ebay for profit then this makes you a trader and this has to be submitted to the Inland revenue. You will need to pay tax on any profit and you will probably need to submit annual accounts...
I would suggest getting a weekend job when you are old enough (16 I think is the legal age) and until then get paper rounds, wash cars and mow peoples lawns till you dropDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
You must be 18 to register to sell on ebay, so your idea is a non starter, sorry.
This thread doesn't really fit this board so I'm going to ask where best to move it to. I'll leave it here temporarily until I can find a more suitable place for it.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
I agree that the trip is expensive, but it would be worthwhile. I may be wrong but I think World Challenge are a business and are in the industry to make a profit (and provide educational trips!). £3500 is a lot to raise.0

He could always get his parents to sign up for the account and he just manages it... I know I had an ebay account in my mums name before I was 18 as she hardly knows how to turn the computer on.0 -
yesDaughters doing similar thing to Kenya next Summer. Try to keep your own costs down by taking out your own insurance through Quidco and TCB. You will need innoculations etc so have a chat to your GP or chemist to see if they will do them cheaply or even free.
Set up a basic website with all of the details and make one of pages a referals page (best possibly via TCB links). Then encourage all of your family and friends to buy their next car or house insurance etc via those links so you get all of the referral money.
You are lucky in having Xmas coming up - pre drop a load of flyers about what you are doing around your area then nearer the time go carol singing at the same addresses.
Use MSE and sites like ukhotdeals to get mispriced or bargain items to sell on or put in a 'raffle'.
Sponsored swims, cycles, silence, bag packs, non uniform days, litter picks, cake sales, etc help.
Any equipment you need contact your local army barracks and see if they will loan you the items from the adventurous training stores.
Contacting local businesses can be very time consuming but a feature in a local paper is always a good idea to promote your cause.
If you have the will to go then anything is possible. Enjoy it and if it is properly organised you will not regret any of the hard preparation.0 -
yesif you're contatcing local businesses, try the larger (lesser known) local businesses....
my best return rate was from the large (lesser known) family owned and run local businesses....
good luck....0
