You posted this saying you would keep it updated then nothing. It would be really helpful if you added your experiences.

The post you quoted was from over five years ago, how likely do you think it is he's going to reply to you? :rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi,

How much do they pay per parcel, this is what I have been advised by someone who knows somebody that has just started the ODF for DPD.

He says that the guy is contracted to 90 parcels a day at £2.79. He also gets a fuel card where he gets fuel at £1 a litre.

I had asked does he ever get more parcels and he advised that at Christmas they will ask if he wants more parcels at £4 a pop but it is not compulsory.

He needs to rent his Van and they guy I know said that he could not remember but thought it was £200 a month and then he pays for an accountant.

Can you confirm if these details are right, or add anything to it.

    Thanks
  • I can't reveal specifics on amounts per delivery as that is confidential to current odf's and employees. But I can say that some odfs are on a set rate per parcel or drop as we call it, others will be on a sliding scale and the rate depends on how many miles you drive and how many drops you do.

Most routes country wide that have lower mileage will be on a set drop rate, and those with a higher mileage will be on a sliding scale rate, on the whole.

It sounds like your friend is contracted to a set parcel rate and should have a lower mileage route.

The fuel card that I have gives me a certain amount (pence) off per litre, which changes week to week depending on the fuel price DPD Group pay. Normally I get around £5 off per full tank, which means when I fill up 3 times a week it saves me a nice chunk each year!

Getting more parcels isn't an issue for me as I am on the sliding rate, so I always take out what ever I have each day. My particular route is 10-12hrs every day and I'm rarely below 100 drops, normally 110-130 most days.

Come Christmas time I'll expect it to be busier than last year where I had 130-150 every day. My busiest day was 152 over a 13.5hr day last Christmas!

Van wise, it all depends on your circumstances. If you have the money or good credit to lease/buy your own, then go for it, it will be cheaper both to lease the van and for the insurance.

Unfortunately I can't get my own van so have to lease one through DPD but I can't say how much I pay, again because of confidentiality reasons.

But I can say I make a good to very good wage each year, one that I'd struggle to make else where seeing as though I'm local to my depot and there aren't many similar jobs around, I'm home every night, I enjoy the job and the people I work with.

You can quote a post so others know who your referring too.
  • Hi
I went to the presentation today. The prediction on earning was £50,000 a year minus all costs leaving around £35,000 a year job before tax. However I believe being self employed a load of the costs would be tax deductible like fuel the vehicle hire or purchase price and insurances. Is that right, I will check with an accountant but wondered if you could enlighten me.

Yes those figures are pretty accurate on the whole, however, as in every depot there are routes that will offer less and some that offer more, unfortunately those that offer less are usually the ones that have drivers who get frustrated and leave.

We have a couple in my depot and in the 2 years I've been there each route has had 3 new odfs on them. Currently both routes have drivers who are happy earning less but for how long who knows.

Just be aware of this if you take up the option and don't get ahead of yourself thinking you'll be earning top of the range until you know what route you have.
