Computer will not connect to Internet Explorer

Can anyone help? A computer was left on overnight as it needed an update, what update I do not know, but the computer will not load Internet Explorer since. It is Windows XP and never gave any bother before. It is connected to the internet and it is displaying the icon to say so. I have tried to get it working again by restoring it to an earlier date but it doesn't take any affect.

Can anyone tell me what to do to get it working again?

What happens when you try with another web browser then?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I was clicking buttons there now and it asked if I wanted to install Internet Explorer 8 so I installed it. Now I can get logged into emails on one page but when I attempt to open a second Internet Explorer page it will not load it. Any idea why it will not load the second Internet Explorer page? I am afraid to close the one that is open in case it will not load again...

So you were running IE7 and Windows Updates has now updated you to IE8?
Same question again: assuming you have another web browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc), can you connect OK using that (i.e. is this problem confined to IE8)?
    Maybe try this:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-vista/Reset-Internet-Explorer-8-settings
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Also, when you say it won't load a second IE page, what exactly is happening?
When you click the new tab button, does it simply do nothing, does it freeze the program or does it open a new blank tab and when you type in an address it won't go to that page??

It opens a new page but it doesn't load anything. I have tried different websites but it will not load them.

I have noticed that when I type a web adddress into the address bar and press enter the cursor remains flashing and therefore I think it is not attempting to load the page could I be correct? Also when I type in the name of a site, ie Ebay or Amazon, into the Google search which is on the right of the address bar it will not do a search.

Any idea what is wrong now?
