    Woo-hoo!

So the increase of the tax on the tax for the fuel for the taxed vehicle paid for out of taxed earnings may not increase just yet?

Who says that the government don't listen, eh....?

Since VAT is a percentage (rather than a fixed amount like fuel duty) the Government directly profits from an increase in fuel prices anyway. So for them to say they might not increase fuel duty is a pretty pathetic offering to make.

The last time we saw fuel as near to this price, oil was at $150 a barrel.
Funny how it is now only at $90 a barrel and we are paying more?

But when oil was at $150 a barrel, £1 was equal to ~ $2, now the rate is a pound is worth $1.55.

As for the scrap of the 1p raise, it would be nice but the rate fuel is increasing it wouldn't make any difference.

As much as I think the government should scrap the further fuel duty hike it is such a juicy money pot I doubt they will. They will probably argue that they need as much money as they can to reduce the deficit.

However they do not seem to apply as much energy in reducing tax evasion, did I mention Vodafone, Topshop, Boots ...

What they need to do is tax cigarettes and alcohol triple/quadruple of what it is already then lower fuel tax to compensate.

It's legal tax avoidance .... not evasion.

That's the problem, it shouldn't be legal at all.

  • Yet we still pay road tax as well!
  • Not raising fuel duty 1p will hardly make a difference when then is already over 60p a litre fuel duty and VAT already being paid!
