Orange minimum charges
I just read something on the Orange website that said that "From 4th January 2011, all voice calls outside allowance will be subject to minimum call charge of 1 minute, then charge per second."
Does anyone know what the previous policy was as regards to charging per minute or per second? (Aka was there a minimum of one minute before). I rarely go over my minutes but even when I have the charge has never gone so high.
My phone bill has doubled this month, and I'm just wondering if this is partially why (I went over my minutes but had lots of calls at 2 seconds long where they went to answerphone- Getting charged at 17p per minute adds up)
I got my contract the end of May, early June 2010 if that affects anything? Dolphin 25
Cheers,
Amy

That's certainly how Orange currently charge me - and have done, I thought, since my contract started in August 2009 - a minumum of 1 minute outside of bundle. My per minute rate is 25.5p and 15.5p per text!!!
This is something happening across many networks - really hammering out-of-bundle charges. I think Virgin Mobile top the tree at 31p per minute if you've used up your inclusive minutes. The one minute minimum is a real killer for short calls and quick answerphone messages.
As a fairly low user, I am really going to look closely at the Phone Co-op's £2/month tariff with no free minutes or texts but per second billing a minimum call charge of 1.2p and 4p/min calls to landlines. I don't text too much so I have a feeling that this deal will strangely be significantly cheaper that getting a deal with "free" minutes. A 30 second call home for 2p seems attractive. Even the budget/value PAYG deals at 8p a min have a 1 min minumum charge.0 -
Isnt that Orange breaking their end of the contract?
I had a text this morning telling me that 'as of 1st of March we are making some changes to the charges for calling countries abroad'
I am desperate to get rid of Orange, I have had nothing but trouble with them and was advised that unless that break their end of the contract I cant do anything about it.0 -
I'm not entirely sure as to what the terms were before hand- I bought my phone online and now can't find a copy of the contract/call charges anywhere for my plan. I was just curious, as I know of another 3 people who never run up large bills being charged a lot this past month. I was trying to find out if there was some other reason other than that I'd gone over my minutes (Which is totally my fault and I'm happy to pay, just wondering).0

Hi swanswan1,
If you contact Customer Services they will be able to give you a breakdown of your most recent bill. You can check/compare your bills on Your Account at https://www.orange.co.uk. Alternatively you can contact my colleagues on the Orange pages below.
Hope this helps!
