Tesco Clubcard - To merge or not to merge?

Can anyone explain what the advantage is of merging 2 tesco clubcards into one?

If a husband & wife each have their own cards, there are 2 accounts, receiving seperate vouchers and twice as many of the extra money-off vouchers coming in.

What is the point of merging the cards and only getting one lot of vouchers, surely this is reducing the number of extra vouchers that you might get?

The advantage is that say you get

50 points and your husband get 50 points they'll be merged and create a £1.00 voucher rather than individually where they'd both be carried over to the next month/quarter whatever.

(They may give 50p vouchers can't remember in which case change 50 to 25)

if you have over a certain spend in each voucher period you get upgraded to a different class of club card and in effect your vouchers are worth more for certain things.

Do they still do this? There is no mention of it in any of the brochures that I have, or on the website.

That's why we merged ours not sure it still makes a difference reading the last mailing from Tesco.

  • I'm inclined to think its better to keep them separate and spend on one for a while, then the other. I have picked up a few extra cards recently for the 100 welcome points. I haven't got round to adding them to my registered card and use whichever comes to hand at the till.

This week I received four weekly vouchers for £6 off a £30 spend which I think is because I haven't used my main card as much. Other people are getting this mailing but with different amounts off :-/

This used to be the case but not any more. Everyone is now entitled to 4 times the face value of their vouchers if they exchange it for anything other than shopping.
The only benefit I can see to merging cards is if you want to use the points for vouchers towards something like a holiday. Only one person can book so I assume the vouchers have to be in that person's name (I could be wrong!!).

We have had various accounts over the years, and have pooled our vouchers with other family members and friends to 'afford' deals, and they have always accepted the vouchers regardless of who was applying.

I have two cards one a clubcard plus and the other a clubcard. I collect points on both, get differant money off vouchers for each one. If I don't use one for a while have recieved point incentives like double points on one shop etc.
    I go with keeping two.
