It's not the Armed Forces responsibility to fund your wife's travel to your own home - if she chooses to return there every weekend to check on the house then it's an expense you have to take into consideration.

If you have chosen to reside in a MQ as well then you will have to pay for it whether you are in it or not. When my husband goes to Afghanistan we don't expect to stop paying our rent if I choose to go and stay with family for an extended period. That's my decision!

I am in the RN just about to rent a flat in Edinburgh I am single however this is where im from. Just about to join RFA argus, am I entitled to GYH(T) or GYH(S)?

    regards

You will be entitled to both, as long as you can provide the following documentation for the house:

    a. To prove entitlement for GYH(T)(PMP) the SP is to provide originals of the documents listed below. A Council tax bill is mandatory in the UK as are two of the documents listed in Group Two. For overseas properties, any three documents from Groups One or Two are required.

    Group One (mandatory for UK)

    - Council Tax bill for the current year (or overseas equivalent)

    Group Two (either one, mandatory)

    - Mortgage documents, or Land Registry documents, or Ground Rent.

    - Tenancy Agreement, including full details of the property.

    - Utility bill (gas, electric, water, telephone but not mobile phone) (to be dated within the last 4 months)

    - Buildings and/or contents insurance (for the current year)

    - Direct Debit or Giro bank evidence of payment of any of the Group Two documents above (to be dated within the last 4 months)

    - Evidence of inclusion on the current Electoral Register or overseas equivalent.

GYH(T) is roughly the equivilant of 2 journeys per month.

When in receipt of GYH(T) and GYH(S), you should pay for the first journey of the month yourself, using your GYH(T) and then for the second journey you can use GYH(S). You can not use GYH(S) in consecutive weeks, if also in receipt of GYH(T).

So in a 4 weekend month it would be:

    week 1 - GYH(T)
    week 2 - GYH(S)
    week 3 - GYH(T)
    week 4 - GYH(S)

I take MASF look after RFA Argus, if so speak to the Wtr's there and they will explain.

Can you claim both whilst on Ops? I think I already know the answer. The reason I ask is the DW will be in our MQ which I will still be paying for unlike if I was in SLA, so she will still require to do the journey to our house from the MQ. If they dont want to pay the GYH(T) they should stop the charge for the MQ!

Are you being serious?? Why should you stop paying rent whilst YOU are detached?? Your wife will be still living there!
Depending on where you are going though you may get a reduction in CILOT.
Maybe you should consider moving back into your own house and get home to duty instead?? Thus bringing a MQ back on line for a family who actually need it.

You can't have your cake and eat it!
Cabot (0%) left to pay £2455 let the overpayments commence! :D
