Can you make rice pudding with risotto rice

It does seem a a challenge sometimes to find the short-grain rice on the supermarket shelves. I think it's because the shelf-stackers sometimes don't know what it is or is used for. I went to my local Tesco the other day and found chilli jam on the shelves with the jams and preserves rather than with the pickles and chutneys where it really belonged. So strange.
Back to the OP's question: yes, you can use risotto rice as a substitute for the short-grain but it might not end up quite as nice and sticky once baked.0 -
Mine sell it in the baking section too!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240

Thanks, I have asked and neither actually sell it any more, we are a small town so there's little variety here. I am in two minds whether to use it or just have risotto!0

You can use risotto rice, no problem. Come to think of it, I remember seeing a recipe for a rice pudding tart in Jamie Oliver's Italy book, it used arborio rice.0

I often use cooked basmati white rice as a quick breakfast rice pudding. I just pour some hot milk over it and sprinkle with a bit of sugar. A frugal tasty brekkie:) £2 coin challenge 2011: £30

Can I use it exactly the same as ordinary throw it in the oven for hours pudding recipes, or will I have to tweak the amount of milk/cooking time? Thanks for your help.
I believe you can do this, but I've not tried it myselfAs this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to giev you more opinions.
