At that price, do you think risottos would work using pudding rice then?
I remember reading an article in the Good Food mag years ago about a family living on wartime rations for a week. One of the things they made was a mushroom risotto with pudding rice which was very successful.0 -
I make all my risottos with pudding rice and they turn out well.
As milk is on offer just now, I am making lots of rice pudding0 -
I have used it for Risotto too - Arborio rice is so expensive it is a cheaper option.
It is in the foreign produce aisle by the way.
It does not work out as expensive as it sounds because 500g of Asda pudding rice is 84p which is 1.68 a kg and the big bag is not 3kg as I said before it is actually 5 kgs (just checked) which equates to 77p per kgBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

No local supermarket sells pudding rice any more so I bought risotto rice at twice the price (grrr). Can I use it exactly the same as ordinary throw it in the oven for hours pudding recipes, or will I have to tweak the amount of milk/cooking time? Thanks for your help.0

Odd... my local Tesco and Saisbury's both sell it for 99p.
I am sure I read somewhere that Risotto rice couldn;t be substituted... I hope someone can confirm or deny that for you.We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Just a thought, but did you look in the rice section or in the dessert section? It might not be where you'd expect it to be0

It's always been near the tinned rice pud, jelly sachets etc in my locals:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I made a rice pudding in my slow cooker the other day with Risotto rice, and it was lovely. I eventually found the pudding rice in my local Tesco, as other's have said, with the tinned rice pudding/jellies etc (I originally looked with the rice and pasta, and the home baking areas)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
