MBNA and Barclaycard - ARGH!

Options
Hi all,

If someone has advice/help, it would be very appreciated!

At the moment I have some debt on an MBNA card. It's just over the limit and I shredded the card some time ago. I meet the min payment every month and have (just this second) binned off the payment protection on it.

I have a new 0% Barclaycard I'd like to transfer the balance to. I phoned them to arrange this. I don't have the old MBNA card and BC ask for the expiry date. This was via the call centre in Mumbai or where ever it is in India. I don't have it. Sorry Sir, can't process this without it. OK.

Phone MBNA. Could you give me expiry date? Yep, but it's August 2010. Phone BC and this is invalid, their screen rejects it. Phone MBNA back and asked for a replacement card. They've sent me a letter saying that they won't.

Argh!

MBNA sounded surprised that BC wanted an expiry date. The BC drones are working to the guidelines and processes that they are given. Anyone else experienced this? I'd call BC direct in the UK but cannot seem to find a working UK call centre number.

Driving me potty! :-)

    not sure if this helps?

Cheers Woodbine. Tried the "Technical" helpline but this was for commercial. Asked if they had a UK call centre they could put me through to and she said, not, not direct. It was pot luck when you called the main line but you could ask to speak to someone from the UK.

Will try that tomorrow AM. If anyone else has been in this situation would be glad to hear if you were and especially if you solved it!

The expiry date wouldn't be used to actually process the transfer. It isn't part of the money transfer process from Barclaycard to MBNA.

I'd be tempted to exaggerate. I can't suggest you do that though.

Have you tried doing the transfer online? I can't remember what details they want online - but it may be that they don't want the expiry date online.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

See, now that's interesting as the website allows you to process a balance transfer. It'll accept any "acceptable" values. If I were to make an "honest" mistake and put 2011 instead of 2010...

Will see how butter fingered I can be on the website. Izool - *top* idea that. Cheers! :-)

To be clear, the Barclaycard website requires an expiry date. But, I've just done it and foolishly (God, how stupid!) put in one which it accepted but wasn't valid to the card I had.

It's accepted it online and it's now been processed. Will update here as to whether to goes through.

Hehe - just make sure that you're not butter-fingered when entering the MBNA card number! :o
